Will There be A Confession Season 2?

A Confession Season 2 ITV

Based on a true story, ‘A Confession’ revolves around the mystery surrounding the disappearance of two young women, Sian O’Callaghan and Becky Edwards. The true-crime drama showcases how a Wiltshire detective risks his career by bending the laws to bring a notorious serial killer to justice. Upon its release in the U.K. in 2019, the British crime drama struck a chord with viewers for its gripping pace, visual setting, compelling writing, and extraordinary performances from the ensemble cast. Naturally, fans are wondering: Will there be ‘A Confession’ season 2? Well, here’s everything we know.

A Confession Season 2 Release Date

‘A Confession’ season 1 premiered in the U.K on September 2, 2019, on ITV. It concluded on October 7, 2019, after airing six hour-long episodes. The series released in the U.S. on May 12, 2020, on Britbox.

As far as the next season goes, here’s what we know. The show was touted as one of the best true-crime drama series of 2019. Therefore, fans are hoping for the series to make a return. However, as the murder mystery is based on a true story, the first season exhausts the source material by replicating real-life events, bringing the show to a natural conclusion.

The only way it can come back for another season is if the director Paul Andrew Williams and BAFTA award-winning writer Jeff Pope decide to pursue an altogether different true-crime story. But that seems far-fetched. So as of now, it is unlikely that ‘A Confession’ season 2 is ever getting made.

A Confession Season 2 Cast: Who is in it?

‘Sherlock’ actor Martin Freeman headlines the cast as Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher. Joining Freeman as the serial killer cab driver Christopher Halliwell is ‘EastEnders’ fame Joe Absolom. Florence Howard essays the role of Sian O’Callaghan. ‘The Stranger’ star Siobhan Finneran appears as Sian O’Callaghan’s mother, Elaine Pickford. Stephanie Hyam stars as Becky Godden-Edwards, and Imelda Staunton appears as Becky’s mother, Karen Edwards.

The supporting cast members include Peter Wight as Charlie Edwards, Derek Riddell as Pete, Rufus Gerhardt-Williams as Aiden O’Callaghan, Owain Arthur as DI Sean Memory, Jake Davies as Liam O’Callaghan, Jessica D’Arcy as Lora O’Callaghan, Ian Puleston-Davies as Mick O’Callaghan, Darcy Vanhinsbergh as Steven Edwards, Daniel Betts as ACC Mike Veale, Charlie Cooper as Kevin Reape.

Season 2 can feature a completely different cast or might see the return of a few main cast members in new roles.

A Confession Season 2 Plot: What can it be About?

In the intense finale of the first season, we see former Wiltshire detective Steve Fulcher striving to restart his life by working as a security consultant in Libya, after resigning from his position as Detective Superintendent of Wiltshire Police in 2014, following the charges of gross misconduct of law slapped on him by the IPCC investigation. Meanwhile, two years later, Karen Edwards’ unremitting effort forces the police to reopen the Becky Godden-Edwards murder case.

After finding a shred of new and substantial evidence against Halliwell, who is already facing a life term for the murder of Sian, the police ask Fulcher to come back to Wiltshire and testify against Halliwell. The judge finds Halliwell guilty of Becky’s death, and as an additional sentence, he gets life imprisonment with a whole life order. As for Fulcher, he doesn’t rejoin Wiltshire Police and believes that there are more victims of Halliwell’s misconduct. Karen Edwards runs a campaign to advocate amendments in the PACE laws, while Elaine, who regrets marrying Pete, helps the families of murder victims by volunteering at a charity.

If it gets renewed for a season 2, we can expect the show to follow an entirely different story wherein the police department might aim to serve justice to another victim by pursuing a new serial killer.
