How did Akon earn his money and wealth?
Akon was born on 16 April 1973 as AliaumeDamalaBadara Akon Thiam in St. Louis, Missouri. He spent most of his childhood in Senegal as his hometown since he has Senegalese descent. He is an American singer, a record producer who rose to his prominence with his single in year 2004. Akon learned to play five instruments including Guitar and Drums as an influence of a dancer mother and a percussionist father. As of 2018, Akon’s net worth is $80 million.
Akon had his career built with the help of Music mogul Devyne Stephens, president of Upfront Megatainment. Stephens and Akon met through Lil’ Zane, at Stephen’s rehearsal hall, a place which saw artists like Usher and TLC groom at that time. Stephen signed Akon to his production company after Akon lost his deal with Elektra. The song “Lonely” which Akon recorded with Stephen, captured the attention of imprint SCR record’s (an imprint of Universal) A&R Jerome Foster and CEO Steve Rifkind, who immediately boarded a private plane to Atlanta to meet the promising young artist. The pair further hit it off due to the mutual respect they had for each other.
“Trouble” was Akon’s debut album which was released in June 2004. Akon then went on to release multiple albums and singles like his third album “Freedom” featuring artists like Colby O’Donis, Kardinal Offishall, Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy.
