How did Alex Trebek earn his money and wealth?
Alex Trebek is a television personality who is a Canadian born American citizen since 1998. He was born on July 22, 1940, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. He grew up in a bilingual household where both English and French were spoken. He graduated in 1961 with a degree in philosophy from the University of Ottawa where he became a member of the English Debating Society. Since he was always interested in following a career in broadcast news, he joined CBC as a newscaster and sportscaster while still studying in college in 1961. In CBC, he specialized in national news as well as covered special events for both radio and television divisions such as horse racing and curling.
Trebek started his first hosting job in 1963 when he hosted a Canadian music program called “Music Hop”. He also hosted “Reach for the Top”, a high school quiz show in 1966. He used to host classical programs for the CBC including performances by Glenn Gould from 1967 to 1970. He moved to the United States and started hosting for NBC in a new game show “The Wizard of Odds” in 1973. He was later associated with “High Rollers”, the popular Merrill Heatter-Bob Quigley game show as their host from 1974 to 76, 1978 to 80 and 1975 to 76. During that period of time, he also hosted “Double dare”, a CBS game show and “The $128,000 Question”. He was hosting at the same time both American and Canadian productions which made him the second emcee along with Jim Perry. He at one point of time spoke French in a bilingual edition of “Reach for the Tops” for Radio Canada in 1978. He later went on to host shows such as NBC’s “Battlestars” (1981), “Pitfall” (1981), “The New Battlestars”, “Jeopardy” (1984), “Classic Concentration” (1987), “To Tell the Truth” (1991), “Pillsbury Bake-Off” (1994 – 98) and a week at “Good Morning America” (1995).
Trebek has appeared in numerous shows such as “Celebrity Poker Showdown” in 2005 and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”. He has appeared in television shows such as “How I Met your Mother” in 2010, “Hot in Cleveland” as himself in 2014 and “The Colbert Report” in 2014 as well. He has also appeared for “Colonel Penn Life Insurance” on many commercials. He also holds the Guinness World Record for hosting the most episodes of a game show with 6,829 episodes as of June 2014.
Trebek was married to Elaine Callej in 1974. They divorced in 1981 and did not have any children together. He later married Jean Currivan in 1990 and they have two children, Matthew and Emily. He breeds and trains thoroughbred racehorses at his own 700-acre ranch near Paso Robles in Creston, California.
Trebek has had the honor of running with the Olympic Torch in Jacksonville, Florida when the Torch was journeying to Atlanta in 1996.
