Alone Season 8 Episode 9 Recap

In the ninth episode of ‘Alone’ season 8, titled ‘The Troll,’ Biko talked about how failure after failure could weigh a person down. As the contestants step into late October, the winds have become harsher, the nights stretch longer, and the skies are getting lonelier. At this point, they are all relying on their gillnets to get of their misery. In episode 8, Biko used the overhand knot technique, which looked intricate but had limited reach. He also used moss to chink up the cracks in his shelter that were letting in cold wind.

Moving on, Colter spotted a bird floating in the lake, and quite ecstatically, he retrieved his net only to find it teeming with worms. Yet, the first rule of being a survivalist is knowing that anything is consumable if correctly boiled and stewed. So, he did that and devoured the bird meat that remained. The most impressive thing about Colter in the episode was his gillnet, suspended five feet above the bottom of the lake so that it doesn’t get sucked in by boulders or any other items lying around.

Theresa, on the other hand, wove a beautiful parka to keep herself warm, and her fishnet was specifically designed to catch small fish, a strategy that seemed effective initially. Yet, when cold weather intervenes, it isn’t easy to get things done the way they’re supposed to be. Lastly, Clay’s highly advanced gillnet failed to bring him any luck because of the freezing weather, and it later got stuck in the bottom of the lake.
