Andy Serkis is known as the king of motion capture movies for a reason. As an actor, it was Serkis who kick-started the motion-capture wave by playing Gollum in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ franchise. Directed by Jonathan Levine, the movie features Rogen as Fred Flarsky, an idealistic hot-tempered political reporter in a Brooklyn newspaper. He learns that his paper is being purchased by the media giant Wembley Media run by a Murdochian chief, played by Andy Serkis. Flarsky quits his job on principle. But things take an ugly turn when a series of misfortunes start haunting the unemployed journalist ever since his resignation. He meets his childhood crush Charlotte Field, who has become the current US Secretary of State running for President. All of a sudden, Flarsky’s life gets a new purpose — to pursue the most powerful woman in America! Directed by Jonathan Levine, the movie also features Alexander Skarsgård, June Diane Raphael, Randall Park, O’Shea Jackson Jr., James Saito, Ravi Patel, and Gabrielle Graham in key roles. ‘Long Shot’ hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
7. SAS: Red Notice (TBA)
‘SAS: Red Notice’ is an action thriller with Andy Serkis, Ruby Rose, Tom Wilkinson, and Sam Heughan playing lead roles. The movie is directed by Magnus Martens — who is known for ‘Jackpot’ — and based on the book by popular British writer Andy McNab. ‘SAS‘ follows an off-duty SAS soldier, Tom Buckingham, who embarks on a dangerous mission to counter a terror attack on a train running through the Channel Tunnel between England and France. His marriage plans derail when the crowded train is hijacked. Sam Heughan plays the role of Buckingham while Andy Serkis portrays Clements, a liaison officer at the Prime Minister’s office. The cast also includes Ruby Rose, Tom Wilkinson and Hannah John-Kamen. The film hits theaters in 2020.
6. A Christmas Carol (TBA)
Andy Serkis joins the voice cast of the animated drama ‘A Christmas Carol’, along with Carey Mulligan and Daniel Kaluuya. The movie is a radical adaptation of the Charles Dickens’ classic. Directed by Jacqui Morris and David Morris, the retelling is touted as a political take on contemporary Europe. Though the plot details are under tight wraps, reports suggest that the new adaptation brings the old Dickensian premises into a modern political scenario. The movie begins with a grandmother in a Victorian family narrating a familiar story of ‘A Christmas Carol’ to the kids, while the other family members prepare a toy theater to stage ‘A Christmas Carol.’ The cast also includes Carey Mulligan and Martin Freeman.
5. Untitled Third Tintin Film (TBA)
The long-gestating third instalment of the Tintin franchise reportedly features Andy Serkis as the Scottish Captain Haddock. The character is famous among Tintin fans as their hero’s most trusted friend. Serkis lent his voice for Captain Archibald Haddock and Sir Francis Haddock in the 2011 animated flick ‘The Adventures of Tintin’ directed by Steven Spielberg. The iconic director also announced his plans to make a second and third film in the franchise with ‘The Hobbit trilogy’ director Peter Jackson at the helm of the second project. No helmer is attached to the untitled third movie. Though Sony Pictures stepped in with finance, both the sequels are trapped in development hell. Though the projects are in limbo, fans can expect that Jamie Bell and Andy Serkis will reprise their iconic roles as Tintin and Captain Haddock in the untitled third movie.
4. The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun (TBA)
The second movie of Steven Spielberg’s ‘Tintin’ franchise, ‘The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun‘ has been in development since 2008. The film is directed by Peter Jackson. Jackson had expressed his passion for the franchise many times but the project didn’t take off. Reportedly, the sequel is based on the Tintin story ‘Prisoners of the Sun’, which revolves around an ancient Inca temple in Peru. But other information regarding plot and cast have not been released by the makers yet. Andy Serkis and Jamie Bell have been associated with the project since 2008. Both the actors will reprise their respective roles as Tintin and his best friend Captain Haddock.
3. Squadron 42 (TBA)
‘Squadron 42’ is an upcoming cinematic video game by developers Cloud Imperium Games. The game features an ensemble cast that includes Andy Serkis, Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Strong, Liam Cunningham, Ben Mendelsohn, and John Rhys Davies. Andy Serkis plays Thul’Óqquray, the main antagonist. According to the official synopsis, ‘Squadron 42‘ boasts more than 10 hours of performance capture. Set in the year 2945, the game follows the United Empire of Earth’s Navy which protects human civilization from alien attacks. The player can join the game as a rookie combat pilot in the Earth’s Navy to take on various missions of advanced enemy A.I. and customized spaceships.

2. Mouse Guard (TBA)
‘Mouse Guard’ is Fox’s motion-capture adaptation of the comics and graphic novel by David Petersen from Archaia/Boom! Studios. Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster play the lead roles in the adventure directed by Wes Ball. ‘Mouse Guard’ is set in a medieval backdrop where an order of mice fight tooth and nail to protect their underground kingdom. They face all enemies like foxes, eagles and several other rodents. Serkis portrays the Guard’s blacksmith-turned villain, Midnight. Brodie-Sangster portrays Lieam, a new member enrolled in the Guard’s legion. Though the production of the movie was scheduled by Fox, Disney pulled the plug two weeks before the date. The reason for scrapping the project hasn’t been given yet and future ‘Mouse Guard’ is uncertain.
1. Freezing Time (TBA)
Andy Serkis describes ‘Freezing Time’ as a biopic of Eadweard Muybridge, the pioneer of photography and motion-picture projection. The project has been in development since 2010. There were unconfirmed reports that Serkis would direct and play the lead role of Edward Muybridge in the movie, but nothing took off. Currently, the actor is attached to the project as a producer, but the cast and plot details of the film are still not revealed.
