José Antonio Domínguez Banderas is a multi-talented and versatile Spanish actor, director, producer, and singer. Antonio Banderas, born on August 10, 1960, in Malaga, always aspired to become a professional football player. It was at the age of 14 when his foot broke and he changed his career choice as he decided to become an actor.
Antonio performed in several plays before coming to the notice of Pedro Almodovar. Pedro is a Spanish filmmaker, director, and producer, who has created his unique style on screens with movies that have a sense of liberation. Antonio made his movie debut with Pedro’s ‘Labyrinth of Passion’ though, he only appeared as a side role. After that, the duo delivered more hits together, and Antonio became a regular in Pedro’s movies. The controversial movie ‘Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down’, where Antonio plays a mentally disturbed man who kidnaps a pornstar and keeps her locked till she returns his love, made way for the talented actor in Hollywood.
Antonio, even with inadequate English fluency, was successful at garnering praises for his role in his first American drama movie, ‘The Mambo Kings’. However, it was in 1993 when he started rising to international fame after his breakthrough performance in ‘Philadelphia’ as the lover of Tom Hanks. Since then, Antonio has starred in many high profile projects like ‘Desperado’, ‘Assassins’, ‘The Mask of Zorro‘, ‘Original Sin’, ‘Shrek‘ franchise and a lot more. Apart from movies, he also starred in ‘Genius‘, a period drama series, where he appeared as Pablo Picasso.
