How did Beyoncé earn her wealth and money?

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and dancer. She was born on 4th September 1981, in Houston, Texas. She is the wife of Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, a very famous hip-hop artist. Beyoncé’s talent for singing was discovered when her dance teacher, Darlette Johnson, started humming a song and Beyoncé finished it, all the while hitting high-pitched notes. Once, at seven years, she participated, and beat fifteen or sixteen-year-olds, in a talent show at school. Since then, her love for music and performing kept growing. She continued to perform at several different singing and dancing competitions, and went on to sing with her school choir; she retained the soloist position for a complete two years in the choir at St. John’s United Methodist Church. She got recognition in the 1990s when she created an all-girls’ band – “Destiny’s Child” – alongside Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland. Beyoncé was the band’s lead vocalist, and it was managed by her father, Matthew Knowles. Destiny’s Child went on to be established as one of the best-selling girl bands to date. Up till June 2016, Beyoncé has sold 17.2 million albums as a solo artist, and an additional 17 million albums as part of Destiny’s Child, in the United States.

During 2002, Destiny’s Child went on a hiatus, and Beyoncé got her debut Hollywood movie, “Austin Powers in Goldmember”, which was released that year. Then a year later came the release of Beyoncé’s debut album, “Dangerously in Love”, as a solo artist. This album debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200 and sold 11 million copies globally. It provided her a strong base and recognized her as legit and successful with five Grammy awards for her very first solo album. Two of her songs from this very album, “Baby Boy” and “Crazy in Love”, were placed on the Billboard Hot 100 number one singles. She got the honor of being the first female artist (and fifth in general) to have reigned supreme at both the singles and albums charts concurrently in the United Kingdom and the United States. In 2006, Destiny’s Child disbanded because of Beyoncé’s solo career stemming off, and she released her second solo album named B’Day. This album alone comprises of three of her top-ten singles – “Irreplaceable”, “Beautiful Liar” and “Déjà Vu”. Beyoncé’s acting career continued to flourish what with her getting cast in movies like “The Pink Panther” (2006), “Dreamgirls” (2006), and “Obsessed” (2009).

Her third album – “I Am… Sasha Fierce” – is said to be inspired by her marriage to Jay-Z, and her role in the song “Cadillac Records” (2008) wherein she played Etta James. This album helped her bag six Grammy awards in 2010; one of these six was for Song of the Year for “Single Ladies”. In 2010, Beyoncé took a break from music and focused on managing her career. In 2011, she came up with her fourth album entitled “4”. In 2013 came her fifth album named after herself – Beyoncé – and was critically acclaimed for slightly darker themes. 2016 brought on “Lemonade”, her sixth album which was also acclaimed very much and went on to be considered the best-selling album of the year. Beyoncé has sold an estimated 100 million records as a solo artist and an additional 60 million with the band Destiny’s Child, hence, one of the best-selling musicians in the world. Beyoncé is the most nominated woman in the Grammy history and has 22 Grammys to her name. Also, she has a record-breaking 24 scores at the MTV Video Music Awards – more than anyone else. She was amongst Time’s 100 most influential people in the world twice in a row, and in 2014 she was the highest-paid black music artist the world had ever seen. Years 2015 and 2017 saw her being called the most powerful female in the entertainment industry by Forbes. And during 2016, she was in the sixth spot on the list of Forbes’ Person of the Year. Beyoncé has many sources of income other than her music and tours. She has huge and significant endorsement deals with the likes of Pepsi, Tommy Hilfiger, Emporio Armani, L’Oreal, Nintendo DS, and American Express. Beyoncé has done 29 advertising campaigns with major brands. She has also launched her own fragrances: Heat, Heat Rush, and Pulse. Heat has six editions and these are the world’s best-selling celebrity fragrance line with sales estimating over $400 million. She also yields money from the streaming service, Tidal, which she co-owns with multiple other artists.

Beyoncé also owns two clothing lines, “House of Dereon” and “Ivy Park”. And she also has a mobile game called “Fashion Diva” that yields her money, besides all the other income sources. Moreover, she also earns from the movies she stars in; she will be voicing Nala in the live-action remake of The Lion King.
