How did Bill Belichick earn his money and wealth?
Bill Belichick is a football coach under the National Football League (NFL) and at present, is the head coach of the New England Patriots. He was born on April 16, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee. He grew up in Annapolis, Maryland as his father Steve Belichick worked at the United States Naval Academy as an assistant football coach. His father used to play for the Detroit Lions. Belichick has always acknowledged that his father was one of his most important mentors. He used to study football with his father when he was growing up. In 1970 he graduated from Annapolis High School where he played his favorite sports lacrosse and football. In order to improve his grades and test scores, he joined Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts for his postgraduate year. He later joined Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut and played football, squash, and lacrosse. He played center and tight end in football and was also the captain of the lacrosse team. He graduated in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He was also a part of the Chi Psi fraternity while studying at Wesleyan University.
Belichick started his professional career in 1975 as an assistant to Ted Marchibroda, the head coach of the Baltimore Colts. He was paid $25 per week. He later joined the Detroit Lions in 1976 as the assistant special team’s coach. In 1977 he later added tight ends and wide receivers to his coaching responsibilities. The following year in 1978, he was the assistant special team’s coach and defensive assistant with the Denver Broncos. He also worked with Ray Perkins, the head coach of the New York Giants for 12 years from 1979.
His duties as a coach increased in 1980 when a linebacker coaching as well as being a defensive coordinator was added. He became the head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 1991 to 1995. He later became the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the New York Jets from 1997 to 1999. He joined the New England Patriots and became their coach as well as manager from 2000 and has continued being with them for the last 18 seasons. The regular season record for the Patriots under Belichick has been 214-74-0 since the year 2000.
Belichick was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Honor in 2011 40 years after he passed out of Philips Academy. In the spring of 2008, he was also part of the inaugural induction class in Wesleyan University’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Belichick was married to Debby Clarke with whom he has three children: daughter Amanda and sons Stephen and Brian. He and his wife have been divorced since 2006. It is reported that he has since his divorce dated other women.
