Black Rock Shooter Season 2: Premiere Date, Plot, Characters

‘Black Rock Shooter’ has received a lot of mixed reviews over the years where some have either called it utter garbage and the others have claimed that it is somewhat of a masterpiece. It is actually none of those and falls somewhere in the middle of the two extreme ends of the spectrum. When it comes to the story of the show, all of its plot holes and missing links are quite evident. But despite its extremely short runtime of just 8 episodes, its overall story turns out to be far more fulfilling compared to its OVA.

The biggest problem with the anime though is that for the most part, the story just consists of many mundane events that are just slapped together and have no links with each other. Even the fight scenes have no context to them and a lot of times, these are not even related to what’s going on in the show. The storyline is indeed the most unpleasant thing about this anime.

The first half of the anime has 2D animation and the second half of it has 3D. The first half is watchable but there isn’t anything too special about it but the second half comes as a big surprise as it incorporates some of the best CGI fight scenes ever seen in the history of anime. Overall, the anime has way too many plot holes and has a very generic uninteresting plot which involves some very annoying characters. So at the end of the day, ‘Black Rock Shooter’ is simply the kind of show that will only be enjoyable for those who focus more on the visuals of an anime and not on its plot. For others who look for deep storylines and characters, only watch this one when you’ve got a whole lot free time on your hand.

Black Rock Shooter Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

‘Black Rock Shooter’ season 1 premiered on February 3, 2012 and ended on March 23, 2012. Unlike most other anime, it only has 8 episodes in its first season with each one of them being 23 minutes long. ‘Black Rock Shooter’ is actually based on characters illustrated by Huke. These illustrations were later turned into a music video by producer Ryo. And soon after this, the title of the song became an inspiration for the anime.

The reason why the anime only has 8 episodes is that there isn’t anything more to its story. Even then, many fans wanted a continuation of the series and a few of them even started online petitions to request for a new one. There were also some rumors regarding its renewal back in 2017 but till date, there have been no official confirmations regarding it. After all these years, a season 2 seems less of a possibility but even then, if there is any news regarding ‘Black Rock Shooter’ season 2 release date in the future, we will surely update it here in this section.

Black Rock Shooter Plot:

It’s Mato Kuroi’s first day at Junior High School and like everyone else, she wishes to make new friends. This is when she runs into a very withdrawn shy girl named Yomi Takahashi and there is something about her that really gets Mato’s attention. Mato tries really hard to befriend her but fails every single time and is just not able to break the ice between them. Then one day, Yomi notices a bluebird sticker on Mato’s phone which is from the book “Li’l Birds At Play”. This is how they discover that they do have something in common and before they know it, the two become really close friends.

Meanwhile, somewhere in an alternate universe, Yomi exists as a Dead Master and Mato is a Black Rock Shooter. Everything that happens in this parallel universe somehow has a great impact on the lives of the girls in the other universe. Unaware of this phenomenon, the girls must face their destiny as it comes.

Black Rock Shooter Characters:

Black Gold Saw

Black Gold Saw is a girl with bright red eyes and long black hair that fade into a shade of red at the ends. A blazing red flame shoots out of her right eye and she also has a curved set of black horns popping out of her head that turn red at the top. Her weapon of choice is a huge sharp sword that has a curved end. Like all the “other selves” her eyes have a circular pattern in them.

Black Rock Shooter

Black Rock Shooter is the “other self” of Mato Kuroi. She is almost as tall as her human counterpart and has long black hair. She has light blue eyes and a blue-colored flame blazes out of her left eye. She only focuses on the things that she wants to do at the moment and is usually very calm. The only time she really really loses it is when she is directly confronted by Mato.

Dead Master

Dead Master is the “other self” of Yomi Takanashi and has the appearance of a grim reaper. She has a dark gothic dressing sense and has small black wings that come out of her back. Like others, she also has concentric patterns in her eyes and is slightly taller than her human counterpart. She carries a black scythe as her weapon and uses her wicked smile to confront her enemies instead of talking. She also tends to make weird hissing sounds when someone irritates her.

Mato Kuroi

Mato is the main protagonist of the anime whose “other self” is Black Rock. She is a petite cute-looking school girl who has messy black hair and blue eyes. Most of her belongings including her phone, room decorations and clothes have a star on them. Around the people she knows really well, she comes off as a cheerful and social person. But with the people she does not know too well, she gets really awkward. She is also a little sensitive towards everything but always manages to gain the courage to face things head-on.

Strength

Strength is the “other self” of Yuu Koutari who uses mechanical weaponry. She has two enormous mechanical arms that are referred to as “Orge Arms”. She has metal stilts instead of normal feet and has a vertebrae-like tail that moves around freely like a snake. Her skin is slightly dark and she has short white hair.

Yomi Takanashi

Yomi Takanashi is a teenage girl whose “other self” is Dead Master. She has deep green eyes and short wavy black hair. She is a calm and polite person who is also extremely socially awkward. She is shy to an extent where she is completely unwilling to make no new friends. The only reason why she starts talking to Mato is that the two of them admire the same book.
