Based on the novel of the same name by Ross Thomas, ‘Briarpatch’ is a crime-drama created by Andy Greenwald. The show is executive produced by Sam Esmail, who has established a reputation for himself after the hit TV series, ‘Mr Robot’. The show follows the story of a woman who comes back to town in the wake of a personal tragedy and soon, gets involved in the politics of the town. Ana Lily Amirpour, who has directed the pilot of the series, also serves as its executive producer, alongside Greenwald, who also serves as the writer, and the star of the show, Rosario Dawson.
Briarpatch Cast: Who’s in it?
The cast of ‘Briarpatch’ is led by Rosario Dawson who plays the role of Allegra “Pick” Dill, a DC-based investigator who returns to her hometown in Texas after the death of her sister. In the book, the lead character is a man, but for the show, the role has been gender-swapped. Alan Cumming (‘The Good Wife’) plays the role of an arms dealer, Clyde Brattle. Ed Asner appears as James Staghorne, the man who runs the local newspaper. Kim Dickens (‘Fear the Walking Dead’) plays the role of Chief of Police Eve Raytek. Additional cast includes Jay R. Ferguson as Jake Spivey, Brian Geraghty as Gene Colder and Edi Gathegi as estate attorney A.D Singe.
Briarpatch Plot: What’s it about?
Allegra “Pick” Dill had been enjoying her career, working for a senator in DC, when she comes to know about the death of her sister, who had been a police officer in their hometown. Even though she is grappling with the grief, it doesn’t escape Pick’s attention that there is something shady about the whole thing. She vows to stay back until she finds out exactly what happened with her sister. Her investigation brings her face to face with some old acquaintances and new threats, and she realises that there is a deeper connection of the murder with the corruption infesting the system of the city.
Briarpatch Season 1 Release Date: When will it premiere?
‘Briarpatch’ Season 1 is set to release February 6, 2020 at 10/9c on USA Network. The first two episodes of the series had been screened at TIFF and the show received good reviews, the praise directed particularly towards its neo-noir western tone. The whodunit nature of the story keeps things exciting and the viewer gets easily invested in the mystery.
About the promise of the series, President of Entertainment Networks at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment said: “When we were first introduced to the anthology by Andy Greenwald, UCP and Paramount Television, we were immediately struck by the show’s unique tone and captivating story. And Sam Esmail’s incomparable vision and style coupled with Rosario Dawson’s tremendous performance as Allegra Dill, will no doubt leave audiences buzzing.”
While USA Network has not yet confirmed a second season for the show, there is a very good possibility of its return. The network might wait for the first season to wrap up as the chances of a follow-up season very much depend on the response the show receives.
