Lately, Netflix has doubled-down on supplying consistent content to anime lovers. Following a generic post-apocalyptic premise, which seems to have some striking similarities with ‘Attack on Titan,’ ‘Cagaster of an Insect Cage’ is yet another addition to Netflix’s ever-growing list of anime originals.
The show offers everything from slam-bang action scenes to a slightly moving storyline. Moreover, the anime also delves into other deeper themes that portray societal breakdowns in the backdrop of a gruesome epidemic and a war that follows it. Brimming with tragedy, dread and eventually, some feel-good moments, ‘Cagaster of an Insect Cage’ is one anime that all otakus should check out this season.

Cagaster of an Insect Cage Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?
‘Cagaster of an Insect Cage’ season 1 premiered worldwide on February 6, 2020 in an ONA format. It has a total of 12 episodes with each one of them being close to 25 minutes long. The anime has been adapted from a manga that goes by the same name and has a total of 7 volumes. Since the anime is a pretty loyal adaptation of the manga, it covers almost all the major elements of its storyline. But since the anime adapts almost all seven volumes in its first season, it seems very less likely that it will be renewed.
Moreover, even the end of the first season is quite conclusive and brings all of its plot points in a full circle. All primary characters get a very satisfying epilogue in the end and none of the mysteries of its storyline are left unanswered. At this point, a sequel of ‘Cagaster of an Insect Cage’ would only be possible if Kachou Hashimoto, the mangaka of the source, decides to add new volumes to the story.
Apart from that, since it’s a Netflix original, the possibilities of its renewal heavily depend on how well it is received on the streaming platform. Although it seems very less likely at this point, if ‘Cagaster of an Insect Cage’ season 2 does happen, it will release sometime in January 2021 or later.

Cagaster of an Insect Cage Plot
Set in the year 2125, ‘Cagaster of an Insect Cage’ revolves around the lives of those who struggle to survive in a dystopian world that is ruled by flesh-hungry insect-like monsters known as Cagasters. These ghastly creatures were once normal humans like all the others, but after the outbreak of a deadly virus, several humans developed an “evolutionary” trait and turned into something much more sinister. Kidou, the main male character of the series, is a young boy who works as an exterminator. He and a few other brave souls take it upon themselves to kill Cagasters.
When he’s out hunting down Cagasters one day, he finds a young abandoned girl named Illie and is forced to take care of her. With time, the two of them get closer to each other but at the same time, even the world around them begins to go through some drastic changes. The truth behind the origins of the Cagasters surfaces, Kidou faces the demons of his past, and Illie turns out to be a lot more inhuman than any of them could have imagined.
