Chance is an American TV series that premiered on Hulu on January 19, 2016. The series is based on Kem Nunn’s novel of the same name. It is developed by Nunn and Alexandra Cunningham. Kem Nunn is a novelist and television writer; his works have been described as “surf-noir” for their dark themes, political overtone, and surf settings.
Meanwhile, Cunningham is best known for being the writer and producer of Desperate Housewives. She is also a developer, writer and executive producer of Prime Suspect (“re-imagining” of the original British series).
The show has had two successful seasons so far. Now the question is, will there be a Chance season 3? We will delve into that question, but first let’s quickly look into the details of the series.
Chance Cast: Who is in it?
Hugh Laurie rounds up another masterpiece in a doctor’s role after his eight-year successful stint on television of playing Dr. Gregory House. He plays the lead character, Dr. Eldon Chance, who is a neuropsychiatrist based in San Francisco. Apart from him, the series contains important characters like Darius ‘D’ Pringle, played by famous actor Ethan Suplee, followed by Stefania Lavie Owen who plays the character of Chance’s teenage daughter who suffers from financial difficulties and goes through mental health issues.
Dianne Farr plays Christina Chance, wife of Chance; the duo is looking for a divorce. Gretchen Mole plays the very crucial role of Jaclyn Blackstone who is Chance’s patient suffering from psychological and domestic abuse from her partner, Raymond, who is played by Paul Adelstein. Famous television director Brian Goodman is roped in as Detective Kevin Hynes who also has a crucial part in the series.
Other notable characters include Clarke Peters as Carl Allan and Paul Schneider as Ryan Winter who appears in season 2 while Michael McGrady plays the character of Sanford Pringle along with Elizabeth Rodriguez playing Kristen Clayton.
Chance Plot: What is it about?
Chance revolves around Dr. Eldon Chance, who is a neuropsychiatrist based in San Francisco. Apart from treating his patients, he is also going through a divorce and has a daughter who has financial issues in her life. The first season focuses on the doctor’s quest to understand his treacherous desires and fancies.
Time and again, Eldon’s morals and etiquette are brought under the scanner. He gets in trouble with his patient, Jaclyn Blackstone who suffers from corruption and an abusive partner. Jaclyn has symptoms of split personality disorder ever since the physical abuse from her partner. Her husband is a homicide cop who threatens anyone who takes his wife away. Eldon manages to seek help from a furniture restorer named Darius Pringle alongside his dealer Carl Allan. These people earn their bread mainly by beating people up, and Eldon uses them to get rid of Jaclyn’s abusive husband.
In the second season, we are treated to a continuation of the main plot with 10 hour-long episodes. The season begins with a lot of promise and contains more actions to keep the audience glued to their sofa sets. Detective Haynes persuades Eldony to help him in taking down a serial killer. Eldon soon finds himself very close to the serial killer and gets involved in a dangerous plot to prove him guilty. The story is gripping, and Hugh Laurie’s performance yet again stands out among the others in the series.
Eldon’s reckless behavior and change in attitude put him in deep waters against Darius “‘D’ Pringle who has now started raising questions about his unusual dual character of black and white vigilantism. The walls of the system soon collapse on him as Eldon is forced to reintegrate himself and his life surrounding work and contemplate as to whether violence could be the only answer. He also faces challenges from his daughters as she also struggles with mental struggles, a trait she seemingly inherits from Eldon. After working with D, Eldon finds himself more drawn to D’s violent ways to solve a problem.
Laurie puts another top-notch performance and the series overall is a compelling watch. The pace is coupled brilliantly with engaging music. The tension does give it a suspenseful touch as crucial information is brought forth to help with the mystery.
Chance Season 3 Release Date: When will it premiere?
Chance season 2 premiered on Hulu on October 11, 2017. It wrapped up with its tenth episode on November 29, 2017. The story ends on a much lighter note in comparison to the thrill-filled murderous cliffhanger left by the creators at the end of season 1.
Although it felt like the series had come to an end as the creators were able to wrap up most of their characters’ stories, many people waited eagerly for Chance to return for a season 3. However, Hulu announced in January 2018 that it had ordered the show for two seasons from the start. So yes, there is no third installment and Chance season 2 stands cancelled. But for what it’s worth, while it was on the air, it was met with favorable reviews from both viewers and critics.
