Charlamagne Tha God is the professional name of Lenard McKelvey who is a TV and radio presenter. He was born on June 29, 1978, and grew up in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He grew up in a rough environment and had a troubled childhood. He was arrested for possession of cocaine and marijuana twice. He was arrested again when he witnessed a shooting from the back seat of a car. His father refused to bail him out. He was bailed out after he called his mother and asked her to pay his bail. He stayed in jail for 41 days. He attended night school and worked as a radio intern until he began to host his own radio show in 2010. He chose Charlamagne as his moniker as Charles was his pseudonym as a drug dealer and also based on the individual Charlamagne who used to rule western Europe during 700’s and 800’s. He is currently a part of MTV2 “Uncommon Sense with Charlamagne Tha God” where he stars as well as hosts. He is also the narrator in “Inside The Label”, a show by BET.

McKelvey has written a book titled “Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It” in 2017 and ranked sixth in the New York Times list of best-selling non-fiction for more than two months. It is viewed as “a street-smart self-help guide” offered in eight different principles.
