Episode 13 begins with Emily Foster going on a date with a woman, who is apparently known to Joe. Well, duty soon calls them to Firehouse 51 and they hear an alarm. A house is on fire with an elderly couple trapped on the upper floor. Yet again, the mission is successful but with a setback. The couple needs to be hospitalized and the wife is in a critical condition.

Matt and Sylvie then visit the patients from the morning fire who are in the hospital. The husband, Mr. Larson is concerned about their cat Dusty. Meanwhile, it is also revealed that his wife Gail, didn’t make it. Sylvie decides to drop by the Larson house to see if she can spot Dusty.

On the other hand, Sylvie reveals to Matt that she is adopted and her birth mum is trying to make contact with her. At that moment, they hear the meow of a cat. Well, it is Dusty, who is soon reunited with Mr. Larson. Larson also discusses his wife’s funeral, saying there’s no one who will attend it.

During the funeral, when a devastated Mr. Larson stands crying at the casket, Matt and Sylvie walk in. Sylvie tells him that Chicago is always there for each other and slowly, the whole firehouse team shows up. Even the former students of Gail arrive to attend the funeral.
