The idea behind Christiane Amanpour: Sex & Love Around the World sprung from a very unlikely source. When she first thought of it, the thoughts of the events that were circulating in the mind of veteran CNN journalist and host, Christiane, were that of the civil war in Syria, weirdly enough. The massive refugee exodus that was the aftermath of the Syrian war had become a highlight topic thrown frequently around the discussion boards and foreign policy meetings in various countries. With the row of tents set up as a placeholder shadow of refuge for the mass, Christiane thought about the prospects of the sexual relationship between the refugee couples living in the tents for months on end.
In a paraphernalia of documentaries that focus only on contextual trending topics, or gimmicky takes on legendary historical events, shows like Christiane Amanpour: Sex & Love Around the World are rare. Coming from the same production team as Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, it takes up the universally important but overlooked task of investigating how popular the conception of sexuality and sex changed through the ages in various cultures.
Christiane Amanpour: Sex & Love Around the World Season 2 Cast: Who’s in it?
Christiane Amanpour: Sex & Love Around the World is the brainchild of the titular figure, Amanpour. have Amanpour’s wide range of journalistic knowledge and academic background has helped the show immensely, as she hosted all six episodes and also wrote the show herself. Christiane Amanpour: Sex & Love Around the World Season 2 Plot: What is it about?
The show attempts to explore how sex and sexuality, as conventionally taboo topics in many cultures, are seen in various cities of the world. Starting with Tokyo in the pilot episode, the miniseries takes up one major city each episode and investigates how sex and love has been viewed there through the ages. With Shanghai, Accra, Berlin, Beirut, Delhi, and Tokyo, the miniseries covers all the major cultures of the world, and a season 2 is not likely to come. However, if it does happen, we can expect to see more cities in the same format – Zurich, New York, and Paris, to cite examples.
Christiane Amanpour: Sex & Love Around the World Season 2 Release date: When will it premiere?
Even though the success of such a documentary miniseries should not be gauged by its press success, Christiane Amanpour: Sex & Love Around the World fared reasonably well with a casual viewership, as the subject topic was both intriguing and not often discussed. The show’s flawless execution of the documentary format is also worth a comment, and if it were a standard show meant for serialization, CNN would certainly greenlight it for another season at the least. However, miniseries are not known for having follow-up seasons, and the show is fairly self-enclosed, neatly wrapping up all of the threads of questions it opens. On the other hand, there are many more mainstream cultures and subcultures with their unique takes on sexuality that an extension of the show can be based on. Only time will tell whether we will receive a second season, and currently, it is neither renewed nor canceled, with the tentative air date for season 2 still TBD.
