How did Chuck Schumer earn his money and wealth?
Chuck Schumer is a politician from the Democratic Party and serving as the senior United States Senator from New York. He has been elected from this seat since 1998. He was born Charles Ellis Schumer on November 23, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York. He is from a Jewish background. He was a brilliant student as a young child and scored a perfect 1600 on the SAT. He graduated from James Madison High School as class valedictorian in 1967. He enrolled himself in Harvard College and graduated from there and went on to study at the Harvard Law School. He received his Juris Doctor with honors in 1974 and passed the New York state bar in 1975. Although he studied law, he never thought of practicing it as he always wanted to pursue a career in politics.
Schumer joined politics when he ran for the New York State Assembly which he won in 1974 and has never lost an election since then. He ran for the Senate in 1998 and won. Schumer is known for his love for publicity. So much so that he has been described as an “incorrigible publicity hound”. He makes several appearances in front of the media on Sundays for both legislative as well as non-legislative matters. He has frequented on “The Daily Show” as a guest seven times. He has the ability to take on tough issues such as immigration, healthcare, and financial regulation. For the last 16 years, Schumer has been visiting all 62 counties under New York every year. He takes a keen interest in the local issues faced by New Yorkers.
As of 2017, Schumer has been the minority leader of the Senate Democratic caucus which elected him as the leader in November 2016. He is the first New Yorker as well as the first Jewish person to be a Senate leader.
Schumer is married to Iris Weinshall. They married on September 21, 1980, at Windows on the World at the top of the north tower of the World Trade Center. They have two daughters: Jessica and Alison. Both his daughters have studied at Schumer’s alma mater, Harvard College. Schumer’s wife, Weinshall was the commissioner of transportation of New York City from 2000 to 2007.
Schumer has written a book along with inputs and help from Daniel Squadron. “Positively American: Winning Back the Middle-Class Majority One Family at a Time” was published in January 2017 which outlines strategies which the Democrats could implement to court middle-class voters.
