Danny Oscar Garcia was born on 20th March 1988 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S. Danny was introduced to boxing by his father at the age of ten. His father took him to Philadelphia’s Harrowgate Boxing Club and he was Garcia’s primary boxing coach. Garcia grew up with a dream of becoming the next generation “great Puerto Rican fighter”. In 2007, Garcia made his professional debut in Atlanta City, New Jersey against Mike Denby. He continued to fight and win many matches and challenged Mexican legend and Ring Top 10 light welterweight, Erik Morales for WBC super lightweight Championship in 2012. Garcia won the match against Morales and won the title.

The same year Garcia fought against British boxer Amir Khan for WBA super title. The fight, which took place on 14th July 2012, averaged around 1.3 million viewers on HBO World Championship Boxing. Later Garcia won the fight over the former two-weight Champion Zab Judah in 2013 at Brooklyn. Following the victory, Garcia fought with Argentine slugger Lucas Matthysse at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Garcia won the fight and with the victory won the title Lineal light welterweight. Garcia was also named 2013 Boxer of the Year by Stiff Jab for beating both Judah and Matthysse.

Garcia then fought with veteran fighter Mauricio Herrera, lightweight contender For Salka and Lamont Peterson. The Garcia and Peterson fight was telecast by NBC on its primetime in partnership with Premier Boxing Champions. The fight took place in April 2015 and Garcia won the match. The same year it was announced that Garcia would be making his welterweight debut against former world champion Paulie Malignaggi. The fight was shown on ESPN in which Garcia won.

Garcia then fought Robert Guerrero the following year which was broadcasted on FOX and Garcia won the fight becoming the new WBC welterweight champion.

Garcia next fought undefeated welterweight champion and WBA title holder Keith Thurman. The fight was officially announced to be shown live on CBS. Garcia lost the fight to Thurman making Thurman the welterweight world champion. The fight peaked an average of 5.1 million viewers.
