As Andy puts his focus on the brutal murder of a teenager in the woods, his world turns upside down when the police accuse Jacob of being responsible for the heinous crime against his classmate. Jacob’s fingerprints are found on the sweater of the murder victim, and he is charged with first-degree murder. The officials inform Jacob that he will be treated as an adult in the court of law.
Andy and Laurie can’t bring themselves to believe that their son might have it in him to commit such an abominable act. Andy is taken off the case, and along with his wife, he embarks upon a mission to prove his son’s innocence in the court and also to prevent their idyllic family from falling apart. As all the fingers and shreds of evidence point towards Jacob’s guilt, Andy is forced to confront his estranged father, Billy, who is in prison after being convicted of murder and rape.
