How did Derrick Rose earn his money and wealth?

Derrick Rose is a professional basketball player who is under the National Basketball Association (NBA). At present, he plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was born on October 4, 1988, in the Englewood area of Chicago which is considered as one of the most dangerous neighborhoods on Chicago’s South Side. He was born to Brenda Rose and has three older brothers Dwayne, Reggie, and Allan.  He was taught the ins and outs of basketball by his talented older brothers. As his basketball skills and talents grew, Rose attracted attention from outside Chicago. His mother restricted his contact with outsiders so that he would not get diverted by outside parties just the way former Chicago prospect Ronnie Fields was exploited.

In 2003 Rose joined the Simeon Career Academy and at that time he was considered a hot commodity for collegiate coaches. He played for the Wolverines as freshmen and JV basketball under the guidance of his Coach Bob Hambric. Hambric did not allow a freshman to play in the varsity team. After he retired and Coach Robert Smith was hired, Rose’s varsity debut against Thornwood High School was a sold out game which attracted many college coaches and scouts. He made 22 points, 5 steals and 7 rebounds in the game. His playing earned him a third team spot in his first national award: a Parade All-American.

Rose was ranked by Sports Illustrated as the fifth-best prospect in the nation during his senior year. He was also named Illinois Mr. Basketball and named to the McDonald’s All-American team in his senior year. He was named by ESPN RISE magazine as the decade’s third greatest high school point guard in 2009.

After Coach John Calipari saw Rose play in an AAU game, he was given the scholarship to play for the University of Memphis Tigers. Rose chose to join the Memphis Tigers because of the record number of players who have made it from there to the NBA and he also wanted to be coached under the guidance of 17-year veteran, Rod Strickland. During his time with the Memphis Tigers, he was a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award as well as Bob Cousy Award. He later decided to forgo his final three seasons with the Memphis in April 2015 and chose to be part of the 2008 NBA draft.

During the 2009 NBA draft, Rose was picked by the Chicago Bulls and played with them from 2008 to 2016. He earned himself an Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors. He also won the Rookie of the Year award and was part of the NBA All-Rookie First Team.   He was named the NBA Most Valuable Player in May 2011. Rose was traded and traded to the New York Knicks in 2016 and later joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in July 2017. He signed up with Minnesota Timberwolves in March 2018. Rose has won gold along with the United States men’s national basketball teams in 2010 and 2014 FIBA World Cup.
