It’s never too late to connect with your long-lost friends and spend time making memories with them. Hulu’s latest comedy show ‘Dollface’ is about just that. The show, created by Jordan Weiss, has been given the go-ahead by Hulu for a full season consisting of 10 episodes.
It’s a show that’s very relatable to young women today and one that speaks to them in an intimate, personal way. The show centers on the bond of friendship and touches upon issues and predicaments faced by young women in this day and age. It’s one of the most exciting shows of recent times.
“Dollface is a love story about a group of friends. It’s you and your best friend watching a romantic comedy about yourselves. That’s why I’m so excited for the world to meet Jules, Madison, Stella, and Izzy. I hope they make you laugh, I hope they remind you of yourself, I hope they make you want to reach out to someone. The importance of friendship— that’s what this show is about,” Jordan Weiss told E! News.
Weiss came up with the idea for the show based on events in her own life which she elaborated on in an interview. “I wrote it as my writing sample when I was an assistant,” Weiss said in a conversation with Variety. “I was in a relationship in college and struggled to put myself out there with friendships as much as I could have,” she continued. “And coming out of that time, coming out of a breakup not dissimilar to the one in the show, and realizing that I needed to put more times into my girlfriends, that’s where the idea really came from.”
“Jules loses herself in her relationship and has lost her close friend circle along the way. I’ve done that, had breakups and back-together dramas, and I think it’s a really beautiful part of being a human person — man and lady. And I think it’s important to show”, she added.
Unsurprisingly, the first season of the show was received favorably. Now, the question arises: will there be a ‘Dollface’ season 2? We will delve into that question, but first let’s quickly look into the details of the series.
Dollface Cast: Who is in it?
The series has prominent female characters and so has an ensemble of young, upcoming female actors all adding their zing to the show. The protagonist Jules is played by Kat Dennings of ‘Two Broke Girls’ fame while her friends in the series include ‘Pretty Little Liars’ star Shay Mitchell who plays Stella Cole, Disney’s Brenda Song playing Madison Maxwell and ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ star Esther Povitsky portraying Izzy.
Shelley Hennig, Amilla Bella, Malin Akerman, and Goran Vidnjic make up the other members of the casting lineup. Vidnjic is cast in a recurring role as announced in June, earlier this year.
“I’m so excited for people to see this show because it’s a really fun, feel-good, unique binge that might make you want to call a friend you haven’t called in a while. That’s what it’s all about in the end,” said Dennings in a statement to E! News.
Dollface Plot: What is it about?
The story of the show revolves around Jules (Kat Dennings) who has just been dumped by her long-time boyfriend. In the aftermath of this sudden breakup, she realises that she has lost a lot of her girlfriends along the way because she was engrossed in spending time with her boyfriend. She then attempts to reconnect with all of them, trying to win them back while overcoming the hurdles of her imagination. The show narrates the story of the life and times of Jules and her group of friends depicting the struggles, laughs and moments they spend together.
Dollface Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?
‘Dollface’ season 1 premiered on November 15, 2019, on Hulu. The first season of the show has a total of 10 episodes.
There has been a huge influx of female-centric shows off-late. While most of the shows — like Fleabag — have been great and certainly is a welcome change, there are some that didn’t leave much impression. ‘Dollface’ certainly belongs to the former category. Even though Hulu hasn’t made any announcements so far, there’s a good chance that the show will be back with another season next year. If renewed, you can expect ‘Dollface’ season 2 to release sometime in November, 2020.
Here’s the trailer for the first season of ‘Dollface’.
