Will There be a Doom Patrol Season 3?

‘Doom Patrol’ is DC’s superhero tv series that chronicles the multiple quests of the eponymous team. The show, when it originally dropped in 2019, became a breakout hit, primarily because of its fantastic cast and the weird storylines. Packed with wicked humor and a lot of heart, it tells the journey of an entertaining dysfunctional family — blessed (cursed?) with superpowers. Noting the favorable response received by season 1, it was renewed for a second season that broke all records. The second iteration managed to stay faithful to the familiar humorous concept while incorporating more emotional depth. Following a darker, messier season 2, let’s get to the details of a potential ‘Doom Patrol’ season 3.

Doom Patrol Season 3 Release Date:

‘Doom Patrol’ season 2 released on June 25, 2020, on both HBO Max and DC Universe. It ended with its ninth episode on August 6, 2020. The second season ends on the ultimate cliffhanger — thanks to the coronavirus outbreak, which did not allow the crew to complete filming for the intended finale. This definitely makes us believe that the incomplete storylines will be resolved in an upcoming new edition.

However, the show has not received official confirmation for a renewal. But this should not be a reason to worry. ‘Doom Patrol’ continues to be one of the most popular titles on DC Universe and news about season 3 should be revealed soon. Once renewed, production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic might push the release to a later date. If the scripts are complete and production starts in the next couple of months, ‘Doom Patrol’ season 3 should most likely premiere sometime in late 2021.

Doom Patrol Season 3 Cast: Who Can be in it?

In season 3, we expect the entire lead cast, playing the various members of the eponymous ‘Doom Patrol’ team, to make a comeback. We have Diane Guerrero as Jane (a young woman with 64 distinct identities), April Bowlby as Rita Farr (who can alter her body shape),  Matt Bomer and Matthew Zuk as Larry Trainor, Brendan Fraser and Riley Shanahan as the cyborg named Cliff Steele, Timothy Dalton as Chief Niles, and Joivan Wade as Victor.

Season 2 had seen the addition of Abigail Shapiro as Dorothy Spinner (daughter of the Chief) and Lex Lang as the antagonist Candlemaker. Since both Dorothy and the Candlemaker’s stories stay incomplete by the end of season 2, both Shapiro and Lang will join the lead cast in season 3.

Doom Patrol Season 3 Plot: What Can it be About?

In the season 2 finale, the Candlemaker appears in the real world and takes away Dorothy with him. Season 3 will start off from this cliffhanger, with Dorothy facing the villain that she herself had empowered to grow so strong. We also expect to see Mr. Nobody making a comeback while leading a new crew of villains — called the Brotherhood of Dada. The third season might additionally build on the evolution of Negative Man as Larry Trainor and the Negative Spirit grow closer to Eleanor Poole. Well, get ready for some weirder and stranger storylines in the next outing!
