Read on to find out everything we know about ‘Evil Genius 2: World Domination’.

Evil Genius Series Retrospective

The original ‘Evil Genius’ released over 15 years ago in 2004 is a single player Real Time Strategy and Simulation game developed by the now defunct British video game developer Elixir Studios. The game is set in the 1960s era with a very quirky spy vs spy theme and irreverent sense of humor. You play as an evil villain seeking to achieve global domination and prevailing over your most bitter enemy – the superhero coalition known as the Forces of Justice.

The game itself is part Lair Building and Management Simulation and part Tower Defense. You must simultaneously build up your lair and rig it full of traps in order to fend off the legions of pesky superheroes seeking to chuck a wrench into your Machiavellian plans.

‘Evil Genius’ was received decently well at the time, and although it was bogged down by a few frustrating mechanical decisions the game has managed to retain a small but dedicated player base to this day.

Evil Genius 2: World Domination Plot: What is It About?

‘Evil Genius 2: World Domination’ retains the same 1960’s setting of the original, along with the same basic premise – you are an evil mastermind operating from your secret lair making plans for world domination. Just like the last game, you build your top secret lair inside of a mountain, but ‘Evil Genius 2: World Domination’ adds the concept of a front to disguise your illicit conniving. For example, you can construct a Casino as a front to provide some legitimacy to your operation and avert suspicious eyes. Your ultimate goal is to gradually build up your layer, foil the Forces of Justice’s attempts to infiltrate and sabotage your base and eventually build a Doomsday Device.

The Steam page for ‘Evil Genius 2: World Domination’ describes it as follows: “A satirical spy-fi lair builder where YOU are the criminal mastermind! Construct your base, train your minions, defend your operations from the Forces of Justice, and achieve global domination!”

At launch, you will play through ‘Evil Genius 2: World Domination’ as four unique Evil Geniuses, each with their own strengths, criminal inclinations and story campaigns. Two Evil Geniuses have already been revealed – the star of the first game Maximilian, and the explosive henchman Red Ivan. You can also choose from several different islands to start out on, with each island having its own base building and gameplay quirks.

Evil Genius 2: World Domination Gameplay

‘Evil Genius 2: World Domination’ is a Real Time Lair Management and outlaw Simulation game that centers around four key gameplay activities. The Building aspect focuses on adding key facilities and upgrades to the base. Facility placement is the key to an efficient defense, as your evil minions are controlled by the in game Artificial Intelligence.

The game features two currencies, Money and power, which dictate the construction and operation of new facilities. Training focuses on upgrading the existing traits of your evil minions such as physical and intelligence attributes. The Defending aspect is reminiscent of Tower Defense games, as you lay whimsical traps such as Shark Pools, Venus Spy Trap, etc. in strategic spots to defeat heroic interlopers. Lastly, the World Domination phase will allow players to send their henchmen all over the globe to compete in criminal activities at an international level.

‘Evil Genius 2: World Domination’ also features a progression system for your Evil Genius characters, including specialized skill trees such as Biologist, Hitman, Valet, etc. In keeping with the whimsical tone of the game, ‘Evil Genius 2: World Domination’ will task you with ridiculous missions including selling the British royal family and baking the frigid state of Alaska.

‘Evil Genius 2: World Domination’ is being developed in Rebellion’s in house game engine called Asura. It will feature some key differences compared to the original, including the new mandatory front mechanic, the ability to recruit special soldiers and scientists without needing to perform acts of infamy and a brand new Incinerator to get rid of body bags and inconvenient evidence in lieu of the inconvenient Ice Rooms in ‘Evil Genius’
All of this is presented is a delightfully colorful cartoon like aesthetic that really emphasizes the original game’s whimsy and charm.
