Where to Stream Frozen?

Animated movies are on the rise nowadays as improvement in technology has made these movies capable of being entertaining and informative at the same time. It would not be wrong to say that Disney is the undisputed king of animated movies and ‘Frozen’ is further proof of that. This computer-animated musical fantasy is based on the fairy tale ‘The Snow Queen’ by Hans Christian Andersen.

Upon release, the movie garnered praise for its voice acting, the musical sequences, storytelling, screenplay, themes, and visuals, with some critics even holding the opinion that ‘Frozen’ is Disney’s best animated film in recent times. The movie won two Oscars, and a sequel to ‘Frozen’, titled ‘Frozen 2‘ is slated to release on November 22, 2019. This makes it the best time for you to watch ‘Frozen’ if you have not seen it, or to re-watch it in case you have already seen it. Either way, we will tell you where to see the movie after we walk you through the plot of ‘Frozen’.

What is Frozen About?

‘Frozen’ tells the story of Princess Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) of Arendelle, who possesses magical powers that allow her to create and control the snow and ice. She often used them to play with her sister Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) but after accidentally injuring her one time, all of this stopped. The King and Queen take the siblings to a colony of trolls led by Grand Pabbie (voiced by Ciarán Hinds). Although this king heals her, he removes any traces of Elsa’s magic from Anna’s mind. He also warns Elsa to control her powers and says that fear will be her greatest enemy. Not taking any chances, the parents separate the siblings, and Elsa too shuts Anna out, as she tries to suppress her powers, being unable to control it. This makes her even more insecure. To make matters worse, their parents die when they are teenagers.

Elsa is crowned as the queen of Arendelle when she turns 21, and she is terrified about people finding out about her powers and fearing her. When the castle gate is opened after years for the foreign dignitaries to visit, the scheming Duke of Weselton (voiced by Alan Tudyk) and Prince Hans (voiced by Santino Fontana) of the Southern Isles, a dashing individual, come to visit. Anna is taken in by Hans at first sight, and after Elsa’s coronation takes place, Hans proposes to Anna. However, Elsa objects and unwittingly releases her powers while in court. The Duke takes this chance to brand her a monster, and Elsa is forced to flee to the North Mountain and live as a hermit in an ice castle that she builds, acknowledging her powers. However, this inadvertently plunges Arendelle in a never-ending winter.

Anna sets out, leaving Hans in command, to find Elsa and have her end the winter. On her journey, she meets Kristoff (voiced by Jonathan Groff), an ice harvester, and his reindeer, Sven. Their journey is filled with perils like an attack from wolves, which forces them to travel on foot. This is when they meet Olaf, the cheery snowman, who has been brought to life by Elsa and agrees to take them to her. Anna’s horse, in the meanwhile, returns to Arendelle and Hans sets out to find his wife, accompanied by the Duke’s minions, who all have secret orders to eliminate Elsa. When they finally meet Elsa, she is upset by what she has done to Arendelle but says that she cannot undo it. She accidentally freezes Anna’s heart, poisoning her, and also creates a giant snow monster to chase them all away.

Kristoff decides to take Anna to the trolls, his adoptive family, hoping they can help her. Grand Pabbie, however, reveals that the only thing that can save Anna from freezing solid is an ‘act of true love’. Kristoff tries to get Anna to Hans, so he can give her a true lover’s kiss. Meanwhile, Hans and the minions reach Elsa’s palace and upon defeating the snow monster, they take her captive. When Kristoff brings Anna to Hans, he reveals that his plan is to kill both sisters and take the throne for himself. He locks Anna in a room to die and manipulates others into believing that Elsa has killed her, thus ordering her execution as well.

Olaf saves Anna and reveals to her that Kristoff loves her. When Hans confronts Elsa outside, Anna realizes he is about to kill her and jumps in front of her sister. Elsa hugs and mourns her now solidified sister, and the ice thaws, and Anna lives – her act of heroism having amounted to an act of true love. Elsa also realizes that love is the key to controlling her powers. The story ends happily as Hans is arrested and exiled for his attempted assassination, and trade ties are cut off with the Duke. Elsa and Anna are reunited as they promise never to lock the castle gates again.
