How did Garry Marshall earn his money and wealth?
Garry Marshall was born on 13th November 1934 at The Bronx, New York. He went to De Witt High School and graduated from Northwestern University. Marshall was a joke writer at the beginning of his career and became a writer for The Tonight Show and Jack Paar. In 1961, he moved to Hollywood. There he paired with Jerry Nelson and worked on The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Joey Bishop Show, The Danny Thomas Show and The Lucy Show. Marshall and Belson’s series as creator and producer debuted on television as Hey, Landlord in 1966. Then in 1975, they adapted Neil Simon’s play The Odd Couple and created the television series Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple. Marshall alone created The television series Happy Days (1974), Laverne and Shirley (1976), Mork & Mindy (1978) and Makin’t (1979).
Marshall’s director debut feature film Young Doctor in Love came in 1982. In 1984, his film The Flamingo Kid was a hit in which he was the writer and director. A year later, in 1986, Nothing In Common came starring Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason. In 1988, his comedy-drama film Beaches released. Marshall went on directing many films such as Pretty Woman (1990), Frankie and Johnny (1992), Exit to Eden (1994), Runaway Bride (1999), The Princess Diaries (2001) and it’s sequel The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004), Valentine’s Day (2010), New Year’s Eve (2011) etc.
Marshall’s 1990 movie Pretty Woman was a commercial success grossing over $463.4 million. His next box office hit film Runaway Bride starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere released in 1999. His The Princess Diaries starring Anne Hathaway also went well in box office grossing over $165 million
In addition to direction Marshall also produced various television series such as The Lucy Show (1968), The Odd Couple (1975), Blansky’s Beauties(1977), Happy Days, Four Stars etc. Marshall also performed as an actor in Murphy Brown (1988) and in films such as Soapdish (1991), A League of Their Own (1992), Orange County (2002), Life After Beth (2016) etc.
Marshall died on 19th July 2016 at the age of 81 at Burbank, California, USA following a successful career and establishing himself as a prominent personality in the entertainment industry of America.
