High School DxD is a Japanese manga series which has been adapted into several successful anime series and spin-offs since 2012. In Japan, High School DxD has a massive fan base, and manga lovers are almost always waiting to hear about new seasons of High School DxD. Four seasons of High School DxD have aired till date and fans of the show and the manga are eagerly awaiting news on a fifth season. Although a release date has not been confirmed yet, it is expected that Season 5 of High School DxD will continue the arc of Hero Oppai Dragon from the manga. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming season.
High School DxD Season 5 Release Date: When will it premiere?
High School DxD Season 4, titled High School DxD Hero, released on April 17, 2018 and ended on July 3. 2018. However, since then, no renewal announcements have been, and it remains unclear whether High School DxD will return for a fifth season. That being said, Season 4 started off with the Hero Oppai Dragon story arc from the manga, covering Volumes 9 and 10. Given this fact, it is expected that the show will return for Season 5, which is expected to continue this story arc and adapt Volumes 11 and 12.
We’re keeping our ears open for any announcements by Passione Studio, which has taken over the anime production since Season 4. Our best guess is that if everything goes well, High School DxD Season 5 release date could fall sometime in 2020. We will update this section as soon as we learn more.

High School DxD Plot:
The plot of High School DxD is set around Kuoh Academy or Kuō Gakuen, which is an old girls school which has recently been turned into a co-ed institution. Unbeknownst to the world, however, the school has a dark secret – it is the home of many fallen angels, both benevolent and malevolent. As far as characters are concerned, Issei Hyoudou is the main protagonist of the show.
A run-of-the-mill pervert who dreams of having his own Harem one day, Issei is always looking to get a date with the girls in his school. Things suddenly look up for Issei when a beautiful girl called Yuuma Amano asks him out for a date. However, Issei’s dream day out turns into a nightmare when Yuma reveals that she’s a fallen angel called Raynare, and stabs him to death. Despite getting killed, Issei gets a second shot at life when a beautiful senior called Rias Gremory revives him. However, Rias, being a top-notch devil, has her own intentions, and makes Issei her servant, forcing him to work for the school’s Occult Research Club. Having been given a second chance at life, Issei has to learn how to fight, and has to train to be able to survive in the violent world of angels and devils.
As the show progresses, it becomes clear that something is wrong with the Occult Research Club’s Knight, Yuuto Kiba, who is usually alert and composed. Issei thus delves into the mystery and finds that Kiba’s recent behavior is tied to his dark, bloody past wherein he was the subject of a brutal experiment. As Issei delves deeper into the mystery, an old enemy returns, while new ones make appearances, thereby plunging Issei and his comrades into yet another dangerous adventure.
Later in the show, the weaknesses of Issei and his comrades are badly exposed by their sworn enemies, and as a result, Rias realizes how immature her team is. Thus, she and Azazel lead the members of the Occult Research Club into a high-intensity training regime in the Underworld to prepare them for whatever challenges might lie ahead. As the team matures, they have to face none other than Loki, the Evil God of Mischief in Norse mythology, and the team have to give it everything if they are to emerge victorious.

High School DxD Characters:
Over the four seasons which have aired thus far, there have been dozens of characters in High School DxD. However, the main characters have remained the same, and a brief description of them is provided below.
Issei Hyoudou: A stupid, lecherous, and perverted second year high school student, Issei’s life is turned around when he gets murdered by Raynere and resurrected as a devil by Rias. Interestingly, Issei boasts possession of powerful equipment called “Boosted Gear”, and still dreams of being a harem king, even after his resurrection. Yet, as the show progresses, Issei finds that dozens of girls are attracted to him, which makes him irritable and wary of them. Later in the show, after Issei takes down some extremely powerful enemies and deals with unannounced threats, he gets promoted to the rank of a High-class Devil in no time, which boosts his popularity and earns him the affection of even more girls.
Rias Gremory: A senior student and the prettiest girl in Kuoh Academy, Rias comes from a long, noble line of pure devils, and possesses immense destructive power. She can, in most cases, easily reduce living and inanimate objects to dust. From the start of the show, Rias demonstrates affection towards Issei, and later in the show, she falls madly in love with him. Once she falls in love with Issei, she is always trying to keep him away from the other girls in the Occult Research Club. As their relationship matures, Rias becomes more secure, and the two even start dating.
Asia Argento: In the show, Asia first appears as an underling of Raynere, but after she is killed, Rias revives her and makes her a Bishop. Having been brought up as a nun, Asia is extremely shy and bad at socializing, and despite being resurrected as a devil, she keeps her faith in God and can be seen reading the Bible frequently. As far as her powers are concerned, Asia is not particularly adept at combat, but possesses the power to heal angels, devils, humans, and fallen angels alike. Asia also has the power to summon a dragon called Fafnir, but each summon costs her a pair of her panties.
Yuuto Kiba: An 11th grade student at Kuoh Academy, and the self-proclaimed best friend of Issei, Yuuto joined the Occult Research Club after being resurrected as a devil by Rias. A victim and the sole survivor of a bloody experiment called “Project: Holy Sword”, Yuuto is extremely loyal to Rias for saving him from certain death. As a Knight of the Occult Research Club, Yuuto’s swordsmanship skills are matched only by a few, and he boasts superhuman speed too. Being a skilled swordsman, Yuuto has multiple, powerful swords at his disposal, and uses them in tandem for devastating combat effectiveness.
Akeno Himejima: A high-ranking member of the Occult Research Club, Akeno was born to a human mother and fallen angel father. However, after the death of her mother, she is resurrected as a devil, and swears fealty to Rias. Although she maintains a formal relationship with Rias in public, she is close enough to Rias to call her by her first name in private. Later in the show, she develops strong feelings for Issei, which becomes the cause for much jealousy for Rias.
Koneko Toujou: a 10th grade student in Kuoh Academy, Koneko is part of a rare and dangerous species called Nekomata. After losing her parents, Koneko and her older sister, Kuroka, were taken in by an unnamed devil who resurrected Kuroka as devil. However, Koneko’s powers as a Nekomata soon grew beyond her control, and she ended up killing the devil, and had to escape. Following the murder, the devils sentenced her to death, but Rias’ brother, Sirzechs Lucifer, one of the Four Great Satans, protected Koneko and left her under the care of Rias. Despite her small size, Koneko is an adept fighter, and has superhuman strength which allows her to use pretty much any object as a weapon. In the show, she is also shown to be honing her powers as a Nekomata.
