Will There be a Hunt: Showdown 2?

During the initial wave of popularity of Battle Royale games ushered in by ‘PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’, a number of contenders emerged for the top spot, including the commercial phenomenon ‘Fortnite’ and the ‘Titanfall’ inspired ‘Apex Legends’. However, one often overlooked game in this conversation is Crytek’s ‘Hunt: Showdown’, which has its own innovative twist on the traditional Battle Royale formula.

With primary development on the game having wrapped up in August earlier this year, the question now becomes – will there be a ‘Hunt: Showdown 2’? Read on to find out everything we know.

What Can We Expect From Hunt: Showdown 2?

‘Hunt: Showdown’ is a combination of a PvP and PvE team based multiplayer game presented from a First Person view. The PvP element of the game is a variant of the Battle Royale genre, with five teams of two players on a single instance map. However, the map is also populated by several monsters and ghouls that seek to kill the player as well. These monsters can be killed for a reward of gold.

Each round in ‘Hunt: Showdown’ is divided into three distinct phases – the initial tracking phase, in which each team looks for clues in order to discern the exact location of a boss monster; the second banishing phase where players do battle with the boss and banish it to hell and the final phase, in which players try and escape the map with all their spoils of combat.

Of course, this kind of gameplay allows for various types of playing styles, including aggressive players who seek out combat, and more crafty operators that attempt to ambush other players when they’re making their escape.

As for the plot of the game, it is minimal but the Steam page for ‘Hunt: Showdown’ describes it as follows“Savage, nightmarish monsters roam the Louisiana swamps, and you are part of a group of rugged bounty hunters bound to rid the world of their ghastly presence. Banish these creatures from our world, and you will be paid generously—and given the chance to buy more gruesome and powerful weapons. Fail, and death will strip you of both character and gear. Your experience, however, remains in your pool of hunters—called your Bloodline—always”.

As well as ‘Hunt: Showdown’ has been received, a sequel ‘Hunt: Showdown 2’ can improve the original in several ways, most notably by expanding the number of teams and number of players in any given level. A greater variety of maps and more weapon types are other upgrades that can be expected from ‘Hunt Showdown 2’.

Another possible addition to the sequel could be the inclusion of a full-fledged single player campaign. ‘Hunt: Showdown’ takes place in an intriguing game world with plenty of fascinating lore and backstories. The game already manages to instill a feeling of isolation and horror without any sort of narrative, imagine what it could do with a solid story line to back it up.

‘Hunt: Showdown’ already features some of the most impressive graphical fidelity of any game in the genre, particularly owing to the use of the cutting edge CryEngine V. The sequel is likely to boast even better visuals, taking advantage of all the next generation firepower on offer.

Hunt: Showdown 2 Developers: Who Could be the People Behind It?

‘Hunt: Showdown’ is developed and published by Frankfurt bases German video game development studio Crytek. Crytek has a very impressive legacy in the gaming industry, first bursting into the mainstream with the groundbreaking ‘Crysis’ in 2007. They’re also known for creating the incredibly popular ‘Far Cry‘ franchise. However, their last major AAA game, 2013’s ‘Ryse: Son of Rome’ was a commercial and critical flop.

Should there be a ‘Hunt: Showdown 2’, Crytek will surely develop the game. However, given their recent financial woes, they may well look for a publisher to fund the project.

Hunt: Showdown 2 Release Date: When And Where Can I Play It?

While ‘Hunt: Showdown’ initially came to Early Access in February of 2018, it only got a full release in August of this year. Considering it is a competitive multiplayer game, we can expect Crytek to continue providing updates and new content in the near future. In any case, I do not envision development on ‘Hunt: Showdown 2’ to commence anytime soon. At best, I think we expect ‘Hunt: Showdown’ 2 to sometime in 2022 or later.

We can expect ‘Hunt: Showdown 2’ to be available to play on PC and the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox X Series consoles.
