Based on a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, ‘Hunter x Hunter’ is an action-adventure fantasy anime. It tells the story of a world where an elite group of people known as the Hunters has the license to go anywhere and to do anything. Gon Freecss, one of the protagonists of the series, decides to take the Hunter Exam after learning that his missing father has been a Hunter himself. He meets fellow aspirants Killua Zoldyck, Leorio, and Kurapika and becomes friends with them. After Gon becomes a licensed Hunter, his life of adventure truly begins.
There have been two different anime adaptations of Togashi’s original manga series. The first one aired between October 1999 to March 2001. The second adaptation premiered on October 2, 2011, and can be divided into six seasons, with each season corresponding to a different story arc from the manga. Hunter x Hunter Season 7 Release Date
‘Hunter x Hunter’ season 6 premiered on July 8, 2014, and aired 12 episodes before concluding on September 24, 2014. It is an adaptation of the ‘13th Hunter Chairman Election’ arc of the original manga series. Studio Madhouse developed the series with Hiroshi Koujina helming the directorial team. Madhouse also produced two films revolving around the same characters, ‘Hunter x Hunter Movie 1: Phantom Rouge’ (2013) and ‘Hunter x Hunter Movie 2: The Last Mission’ (2013). No official statement has been yet made confirming the development of season 7. In February 2021, voice actors Megumi Han and Mariya Ise , who portray Gon and Killua respectively, began teasing the fans about an upcoming ‘Hunter x Hunter’ project. While the fans hoped that this was for a new season of ‘Hunter x Hunter’ series or brand new series, or a third ‘Hunter x Hunter’ movie, this was likely for the escape room challenge, titled ‘Escape From the Shape-Shifting Labyrinth,’ in the web-based ‘Hunter x Hunter’ game series developed by SCRAP. It was available from March 25, 2021, to June 27, 2021.
At the end of season 6, Gon climbs the World Tree and finally meets his father. Gon’s search for his father has served as one of the driving objectives of the anime. In the following arcs of the manga, other characters take center stage, so the conclusion of the ‘13th Hunter Chairman Election’ arc was a good place for the anime to stop. If there are indeed future seasons of the anime, they will have a different set of characters. Furthermore, ‘Hunter x Hunter’ is known for often going on long-term hiatuses, with the current one lasting for over three years. Togashi’s health issues, especially his severe debilitating back pain, haven’t allowed him to work consistently.
As a result, the manga hasn’t progressed significantly since the ‘13th Hunter Chairman Election’ arc. Considering all this, we can assume that it will be a while before the next season of the anime comes out. So, expect ‘Hunter x Hunter’ season 7 to release sometime in 2023.
Hunter x Hunter Season 7 Plot: What Can It Be About?
Season 6 ended with Gon meeting his father, Ging. They learn about each other’s lives and the adventures they have experienced. Gon subsequently returns Ging’s Hunter license to him. Elsewhere, Kiriko takes over Gotoh’s identity after the Zoldyck Family employs him. Knov and Morel fondly remember Netero. Mito gets the letter that Gon has sent him. Gon rejoins Kite’s group and watches the Small-billed Swans with them.
In season 7, the ‘Dark Continent Expedition’ arc will likely be adapted. The son of Isaac Netaro might organize an expedition to Dark Continent. This might surprise the Zodiacs, who had no idea that Netaro has a son. Elsewhere, Beyond might set out on his expedition to the Dark Continent, going against the prohibitions implemented by the V5. Kurapika will likely become an overseer of the 289th Hunter Exam.
