How did Ice T earn his money and wealth?
Ice T, real name Tracy Lauren Marrow, was born on February 16, 1958, in Newark, New Jersey to Alice Marrow and Solomon. When he was 12, he lost both his parents in a car accident. He later lived with his aunt and her family in View Park-Windsor Hills, near LA. He soon developed an interest in heavy metal music while sharing a room with his cousin, Earl who was an avid rock fan. Ice T went to school at Palms Junior High and later enrolled at Crenshaw High School.
Ice T is not only an American musician but is also a songwriter, rapper, record executive and producer and also an author. He started his music career with his high school singing band ‘The Precious Few.’ In the year 1979, he joined the US Army as the money he had earned from selling stolen car stereos and cannabis was not enough to support his pregnant girlfriend.
Ice T served in the army for four years. In the year 1983, he came back to South Central and recorded a rap known as ‘The Coldest Rap’ for a backing track on the label Saturn. He was injured in a car accident in the year 1985 and was hospitalized. After becoming fit and fine, Ice T won an open mic competition which was judged by Kurtis Blow. He went on to sign a deal with Sire Records in the year 1987 and then released his debut album titled ‘Rhyme Pays’ which eventually was certified ‘gold.’
Ice T recorded the title theme song for the movie ‘Colors’ between the years 1987 and 1988 and released his second album ‘Power’ around the same time. Ice-T’s 1992 album titled ‘Body Count’ consisted of the controversial song ‘Cop Killer’ which resulted in his next solo album getting clocked from being released in the year 1993. The same year, Ice T tried his luck in acting and starred in the film ‘Who’s the Man?’ Moreover, he also collaborated with heavy metal music bands around this time. He made a guest appearance in the movie ‘Forbidden’ in the year 1995.
Ice-T’s subsequent released albums ‘VI – Return of the Real,’ ‘The Seventh Deadly Sin’ and ‘Gangsta Rap’ between the years 1996 to 1999 did not earn him fame and were a failure. Since the year 2000, Ice T played the role of NYPD Detective Odafin Tutuola in the NBC series ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.’ He has also starred in films later like ‘Trespass’, Johnny Mnemonic’ among others. In the year 2006, Ice T created his own reality show on VH, titled ‘Ice-T Rap School.’
