‘In Search Of’, which delves deep into the phenomena behind mysterious occurrences, is an American documentary series that originally aired from 1977 to 1982. Owing to its tremendous success, the show was revived in 2002 and then again in 2018. The current rebooted version airs on History Channel. After a successful run of its first season, ‘In Search Of’ was recommissioned for a second installment as per an announcement on March 27, 2019. Here’s everything we know about ‘In Search Of’ season 2.
Who’s the Host of In Search Of Cast?
The 1977-released version of ‘In Search Of’ was hosted and narrated by Leonard Nimoy. Its 2002 reboot featured Mitch Pileggi as the host. The current revived counterpart on History is hosted by Emmy-nominated actor Zachary Quinto, who is also one of the executive producers. He is best known for his role as Spock in the ‘Star Trek’ reboots. His other notable acting credits include performances in ‘NOS4A2‘, ‘Heroes’, and ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’.
What’s In Search Of About?
The original installments of ‘In Search Of’ dives deep into investigations concerning controversial and paranormal phenomena. For instance, there is coverage about UFOs, Bigfoot, and the Loch Ness Monster. Other episodes explore mysterious historical legends, including the story of Anna Anderson aka Grand Duchess Anastasia, the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, Jack the Ripper murders, secret cults, and their rituals, and mysterious disappearances of people, civilizations, cities, and ships. The tales are narrated via pieces of evidence and theories presented by experts.
The reboot of ‘In Search Of’ embraces a similar trope, with host Zachary Quinto setting out on multiple quests to explore the truth behind several unexplained occurrences. He picks the famous subject of aliens’ existence and interviews witnesses who claim to have had actual face-offs with extraterrestrial beings. We meet a man who says that he has been abducted by aliens on innumerable counts since his childhood. Another believes that he has an alien implant and a woman tries to convince Zachary that she was kidnapped and taken as hostage in a spaceship. Apart from these individuals, Zachary holds detailed discussions with acclaimed scientists at SETI, Green Banks, West Virginia. Here, he witnesses first-hand how the researchers use the globe’s largest telescope to interact with beings from outside our planet. It seems that they also detected a strange radio signal, located at a distance of three billion light-years.
Another episode deals with what constitutes as superhuman strength, the quality of some people who have tremendous tolerance for pain and endurance. Again, Quinto embarks on a quest to study some of the remnants of the weirdest fossils discovered after being buried for years, in layers of soil or rock formations. He attempts to discover if these creatures resemble the monsters we so often hear in myths and legends. First, Quinto travels to Australia, where a teen recounts a story when he was attacked by several flesh-eating monsters. He then lands in America where he learns about carnivorous fish and in the Atlantic Ocean, which holds so many hidden secrets within its depths.
Quinto’s subsequent investigation is to understand how AI is threatening the very existence of humanity. He visits the headquarters of Facebook and learns how two chatbots started a conversation in a language only they could decipher. He also uncovers the apparent dangers posed by advanced technology such as life-like, AI-programmed dolls, robots with the ability to communicate, and highly intelligent drones. In other episodes, Quinto determines the possibility of time travel and deciphers the phenomenon behind sinkholes.
Season 2, just like its predecessor, dives into further iconic mysteries and legends, including if UFOs have ever landed on earth, where is the Ark of the Covenant, and whether the Loch Ness Monster actually exists.
‘In Search Of’ features all types of mythical and supernatural occurrences while re-discovering the greatest enigmas that have plagued humanity since its existence. Narrated through actual witnesses and scholars, who are personally connected to the incidents, it tells the stories through “immersive demonstrations, historical context, and ground-breaking experiments” — which completely changes our perspective. According to Eli Lehrer, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming, HISTORY, ‘In Search Of’ attempts to “solve some of the world’s most intriguing mysteries and it’s this truth-seeking that resonates most with our viewers.” He also added, the show shall offer “credible answers to questions about mysterious phenomena, while others will remain unexplained.”
