Ink Master Season 13 Episode 1 Recap:
Episode 1 of Season 13 of ‘Ink Master’ is titled ‘Rep Your Region’. The premiere episode sets up the stage for the rest of the season where 20 skilled and extremely creative tattoo artists are divided into four teams of five people each — South, East, Midwest, West.
The format is pretty straightforward for every episode. The contestants are assigned themed challenges and after they complete the task, they are judged by Dave Navarro, Chris Nunez, and Oliver Peck based on mainly two factors — artistic prowess and technical details. Following this, 12 contestants are marked safe and the rest eight is given another challenge, which would determine if they remain on the show or are sent back home.
In episode 1, the artists are asked to create tattoos that represent their home states. Among them, Angel Rose’s tattoo is ranked number 1 by the judges. On the other hand, Nychelle Elise scores last and she is evicted from the contest.
In the face-off round between Nychelle and Jason, who are both ranked in the bottom, the judges decide to keep the latter. According to fans, the panel took this decision only to keep the drama alive — which Jason proves by picking on a few fellow contestants in the first episode itself. Even fans are of this opinion, with one of them stating: “I personally liked both of Nychelle’s tattoos better than either of Jason’s. I feel like they kept Jason to keep the drama in the show.”
