When Will Inside Edge Season 3 Premiere on Amazon Prime?

Inside Edge is an Indian web-series that first premiered on July 10, 2017, on Amazon Prime. The show is Amazon’s first Indian original series and was a great success world-wide. It was also nominated in the 46th International Emmy Awards under the category of Best Drama. The series is created by Karan Anshuman and executive produced by Farhan Akhtar, a veteran actor of the Indian movie industry, best known for his performances in ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘Rock On’ and in recently released ‘The Sky Is Pink’.

The series is based on a fictional T20 cricket team called Mumbai Maverick that competes in Power Play League. The league is loosely based on the Indian Premier League, a cricket league in India, where eight teams that represent different cities of the country, compete to win the winner’s trophy. The show reveals the dark side of the cricket world, where politics, money, and power dictate all the rules.

Cricket in India has got a huge fan base and people have gone as far as calling it a religion. The cricketers in the entire nation are not just loved but idolized by the citizens. One of the dialogues in the show, where the actor is heard saying that one can forgive the mistakes of a politician, but not of a cricketer, sums up the devotion of Indians towards the game pretty well. In such a country, where the sport is worshiped with full integrity, to come up with a series based on the same subject is a rather smart move by Amazon, which in fact, worked pretty well.

The show has had two successful seasons so far. But will there be an Inside Edge season 3? Let’s find out.

Inside Edge Season 3 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Inside Edge season 2 premiered on December 6, 2019 on Amazon Prime. All the 10 episodes were dropped on the same day.

As far as next season goes, we are sure that Amazon must have been encouraged by the response that the two seasons have received. So, it is quite likely that the network will renew the show for a third season. Given it took the makers two years to complete season 2, it seems reasonable to expect Inside Edge season 3 release date to be sometime in December 2021.

Inside Edge Cast: Who’s in it?

The show stars a bunch of really talented actors. Vivek Oberoi, best known for movies like ‘Saathiya’, plays the antagonist ‘Vikrant Dhawan’. Vikrant is the owner of one of the top most sports management companies in the world. ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ fame Richa Chadda stars as Zarina Malik, an actress with a fading career and the co-owner of Mumbai Maverick.

Angad Bedi, a renowned TV personality plays the character of Arvind Vashishth, the captain of Mumbai Maverick whereas Tanuj Virwani, another famous media personality plays the character of Vayu Raghavan, the star player of the team. One of the most promising names in the cast includes Siddhant Chaturvedi, a recent internet sensation after his role in Gully Boy. He plays the role of Prashant Kanaujia, a new replacement in the team.

Sayani Gupta plays Rohini Raghavan, the Chief Team Analyst of the Mavericks; Sanjay Suri is seen as Niranjan Suri, the coach; Karan Oberoi plays Imran Khan, Zarina’s ex-lover; Manu Rishi is seen as Manoharlal Handa, the owner of a rival team called Haryana Hurricanes; Asha Saini as Ayesha Dewan, a power broker in Delhi, Amir Bashir as Bhaisahab along with many others.

The show also added names like Elli AvrRam and Sapna Pabbi to the cast for season 2.

Inside Edge Plot: What is it about?

The show revolves around the concept of ‘game behind the game’. Mumbai Maverick is a leading team of the Power Play League. Though the co-owner, Zarina, is constantly present at the matches to support and motivate her team, she hardly knows anything about the game itself and is eagerly trying to find a financial supporter. The viewers, who worship their cricketers in real life also get a reality check, as the series realistically showcases their human vices like temptation, anger, greed and more.

The series introduces Vikrant as the abusive lover of Zarina and the co-owner of the team. His biggest weakness lies in his money. As the league progresses further, Vikrant makes the evil plan of match-fixing, for which he needs certain players of the team to corrupt their morale and give in to the bribe. Prashant, a recent addition to the team, who was targeted during the play, refuses the offer and plays his game with complete honesty.

Arvind tries to bring the team back together even after such heavy blows. His efforts strike the conscience of the coach, and that ultimately results in Vikrant pushing off Niranjan from his building. His sinister plans of infiltrating the team ultimately fail when his players double-cross him. Mumbai Maverick bags the winner’s trophy but, as everything comes at a price, there are negative consequences of the victory as well. Prashant, on the other hand, becomes a victim of his own rage and ends up committing a crime that would have repercussions strong enough to even end his career.

The show gives an insight into many factors apart from cricket itself. The dark side of the sport that is linked to the underworld, politics, drugs, and power is displayed. The series does full justice to explain that cricketers, at the end of the day, are just humans and not God. There are also some impacting scenes that showcase the difficulties a woman faces while keeping her ground in the field of cricket – a man’s world. The instances where Prashant is bullied by the senior members of the team, just because he belongs to a lower caste, is the ugly truth of Indian society that is explored well in the show.

Season 2 revolves around the next edition of the PPL, in which a volatile Vayu Raghavan leads the Mumbai Mavericks to face their biggest adversary yet, the Arvind Vashisht-led Haryana Hurricanes. Amidst the colossal scandals that rocks the world of cricket, both have to find out a way to focus their energies on cricket. In the sport’s upper echelons, Zarina Malik allies with Bhaisaab, but those in the shadows threaten to destroy the very game they seek to control.
