Is V Wars Season 2 Canceled?

‘V Wars’ is a science fiction horror series that follows Dr. Luther Swann, who races against time to find a cure as his best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes), dives to the dark side when a biological infectious agent turns him into a vampire. As the number of infected people grows, the world splits into two camps – humans and Bloods (the vampire faction).

Created by William Laurin and Glenn Davis, the series dropped in December 2019 on Netflix. The show is based on the anthology series and comic book of the same name by Jonathan Maberry. Season 1 ends on an epic cliffhanger, making people wonder when they can see the next season. What needs to be addressed before that is – will there be a season 2? Let’s take a look!

V Wars Season 2 Release Date: Renewed or Cancelled?

‘V Wars’ season 1 premiered on December 5, 2019, in its entirety on Netflix. Season 1 consists of 10 episodes that run for 37-57 minutes each. All the episodes are available to stream on Netflix.

As far as the possibility of another season is concerned, here’s what we know. On March 30, 2020, Netflix announced the cancellation of the science fiction thriller after just one season. Although the streaming giant didn’t offer any reason behind the discontinuation, we believe the mixed response and low ratings were instrumental in deciding the fate of the series.

The series revolves around a virus taking over the world after being released from the Arctic permafrost due to climate change. Throughout the series, there is heightening tension between humans and Bloods, triggering a war for domination. The Bloods are a minority, who are being hunted by the humans and even locked up in concentration camps. As always, a handful of people try to benefit from the situation by manipulating the masses, one such person being Calix Niklos (Peter Outerbridge), who sparks off a deadly rebellion by the Bloods.

Michael Fayne, who is also patient zero for the virus and the leader of the Blood Nation, is betrayed by Ava, who sides with Calix. Being the Blood Nation leader is not enough for Calix, who wants humans to agree to be a food source for the Bloods and not their “masters.” He is willing to go to any extent for that, including exposing 30 million people to the virus, to build pressure. But most importantly, he is trying to ensure that the Bloods have no faith in humans.

The last episode of season 1 features multiple plot twists. For one, Luther’s son, Dez, who is the only known person with an immunity to the vampire infection, is kidnapped. Michael’s death further pushes Luther to take up the cause of putting a stop to the spread of the virus. Once a physician and scientist dedicated to finding a cure, Luther changes his stance completely. He arms himself with a gun, determined to end the crisis in the only way possible – with blood.

As the show ends on a cliffhanger, fans are yearning for another season. Unfortunately, as of now, ‘V Wars’ season 2 stands officially canceled on Netflix. Although the show didn’t garner enough positive reviews, it did manage to amass a dedicated fanbase, which must be disheartened with Netflix’s decision. However, it is important to remember that the show is based on the anthology series and comic book, which means that there is a lot more to the story than what the first season covers.

Ian Somerhalder’s Instagram video reiterates the fact. In the video, he assured fans, “No, no it’s not the end of the road for Dr. Swann or V Wars. There are a lot of great stories to tell, and I’m going to tell them.” So, don’t lose hope, as there is still scope for the creators to expand the series and explore the source material further, tying up all the loose ends. Until further updates on the same, you can enjoy the reruns of your favorite show on Netflix.
