How did James Dolan earn his money and wealth?
James Dolan is widely lauded businessman known as the executive chairman of MSG Networks and executive chairman and CEO of The Madison Square Garden Company. He was born James Lawrence Dolan on May 11, 1955. Dolan was interested in music while he was growing up and pursued a career in music in his younger days. He later switched to study communications at the State University of New York (SUNY). After he graduated from college he began to work in various capacities in Cablevision. Later, his father sent him to manage the launching of a sports radio station in Cleveland. He became the CEO of Cablevision in 1995 and President in 1998.
While at Cablevision, Dolan managed its sports properties and teams such as the National League’s New York Rangers, the National Basketball Association’s New York Knicks, the American Hockey League’s Hartford Wolf Pack and the Women’s National Basketball Association’s New York Liberty was under his supervision. Dolan is the governor of the Knicks and Rangers to their respective leagues. Dolan is known for his business acumen. This was magnified when he opposed his father’s proposed Voom satellite service. According to him and a few of his supports in Cablevision’s Board of Directors, believed that Voom was too expensive with no expense relief in the foreseeable future. His decision prevailed and led to him coming out of his father’s shadows. Since then he has been known for his sharp business skills.
Dolan has been known to have abused drugs and alcohol which led him to go to drug rehabilitation at the Hazelden Clinic in Center City, Minnesota. He is also known to have a bad and volatile temper. Dolan’s love for music still continues as he sings for JD & the Straight Shot, a blues-inspired rock band.
Dolan lives on Long Island with his wife. He also owns the best Luxury house in New York which he bought in 2002. Dolan comes from a very illustrious family where his father, Charles Dolan is the founder of Cablevision and his uncle, Larry Dolan, the owner of Cleveland Indians. Dolan’s two other brothers; Patrick and Thomas are also part of Cablevision as Board of Directors.
Dolan has a penchant for luxury cars and he has built a formidable collection of cars over the years. He owns Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, and Bentley amongst others. Dolan is known for his philanthropic works which he does through Cablevision’s partnership to The Lustgarten Foundation which is the largest private supporter of pancreatic cancer research in the country. Dolan established the Foundation in 1998 and has since 2008, ensures that 100% of every donation that they receive is used only for researching the disease.
