Jonathan Frakes, rose to fame as Commander William T. Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation TV series, was born to Doris J. and Dr. James R. Frakes on August 19, 1952. Jonathan Frakes was raised and brought up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He is 66 years old, made his name in the fields of hosting, directing and acting. He also authored the book titled The Abductors: Conspiracy. He has done his graduation in 1970 from Bethlehem’s Liberty High School, he ran track and played with the Liberty High School Grenadier Band. In 1974 he receivedBachelors of Fine Arts In Theater Arts at Pennsylvania State University. He then moved to Boston to attain his Master’s Degree from Harvard University in 1976.  

Jonathan Frakes had to take odd jobs such as waiter, furniture mover, and a stint as Captain America for Marvel Comics before establishing his career in the film Industry. After long days of struggle, Frakes was successful in bagging roles in Shenandoah and in the Soap Opera – The Doctors(1969).He was seen as a supporting actor in many famous films of that period such as  Charlie’s Angels (1976), Star Trek’s sequel (Contact, Insurrection, Generations, Nemesis), Fantasy Island (1977), Barnaby Jones (1973), Quincy M.E. (1976), Highway to Heaven (1984),The Fall Guy(1986), The Waltons(1971) and The Dukes of Hazzard(1979). During 1980’s Frakes was starred as a lead actor in the Soap Opera BARE ESSENCE. He has been active in acting since 1978.

In early 1987, after undergoing a number of auditions and screening tests, Jonathan Frakes won the role that has made him a popular personality worldwide; of Commander William Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987). Frakes earned the whopping salary of $400,000 for his role in the Star Trek: Generation. While acting in the series of star trek, Frakes discovered his passion for directing and tried his hands in direction with the movies like Next Generation spin-offs, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) and Star Trek Voyager (1995).

Apart from acting and directing Frakes also hosted the shows like television series Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction. In June 2011, Frakes narrated the History Channel documentary Lee and Grant.  Frakes was also the voice actor of David Xanatos in the Disney television series Gargoyles and Finn the Human’s adult version in the episodes “Puhoy” and “Dungeon Train” on Adventure Time. Frakes has worked in over 89 movies, some his huge hits are Star Trek’s sequel Contact, Insurrection, Generations, Nemesis, etc.

He won” Lifetime Achievement Award” by Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror (2013) and was nominated for an award as “Favourite supporting actor” (1996) and also was nominated for an award as “Best Director” (1996,1998)
