Written and drawn by Lee Jong-hui under the pseudonym Slave In Utero, ‘Tower of God’ is one remarkable web manga that has a fairly simple premise, but what makes it special is its seamless blend of 2D characters and backgrounds that bring its fantastical world to life. Apart from being very visually appealing, the ‘Tower of God’ also seems to show no exhaustion in context with its storyline and keeps hyping you up as a viewer.
The whole medium of webtoons hasn’t really caught up with the Western audience yet but now that ‘Tower of Gods’ is finally getting its very own anime adaptation, anime fans from all over the world will now know about it. This Korean webtoon involves a whole lot of in-depth world-building and even its characters slowly grow on you.
So, as fans, we can only hope that it will not be one of those 12-episode adaptations where everything is rushed through. Twenty-Fifth Bam, the main character of ‘Tower of God’, is a young boy who has spent almost his entire life trapped underneath a mysterious tower. Giving him company is his best friend, Rachel, who is the only person he has ever cared about. One fine day, just to get a glimpse of the starry sky above the tower, Racheal decides to climb to the top. Bam, who never really needed anything but her, decides to follow her footsteps and with each floor of the tower that he covers, he meets new rivals and his love for Rachel is tested.
