Kat Dennings has slowly become a sitcom and film regular after her stint on the CBS TV show ‘2 Broke Girls‘. Her rise to fame coincided with the time she picked up the role on the show. She played Max Black on the show which ran from 2011 to 2017, for 6 full seasons, and managed to make Hollywood take notice. ‘2 Broke Girls’ was nominated for three Emmy Awards in 2012 and won the Award for Best Art Direction. The show, on the other hand, received mixed reviews from critics throughout its time on air.
However, the actress born Katherine Victoria Litwack on 13th June 1986, from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania has blossomed into a popular figure in Hollywood. Dennings moved to Los Angeles at a young age to pursue acting under her stage name Kat Dennings.
She began her career at the tender age of 10 in commercials and made her official debut in 2000 on the popular TV show ‘Sex and the City‘. In the TV series, she played an irritating 13-year-old who hires Samantha as a publicist for her bat mitzvah. After this, she starred for a full season of 22 episodes in the short running flop Warner Bros. TV show ‘Raising Dad’ between 2001 to 2002. In ‘Raising Dad’ she played the role of a 15-year-old girl raised by a single father played by Bob Saget. Later she went on to appear on the Disney television film ‘The Scream Team’ as a young teen who makes contact with a group of ghosts.
After stints and guest appearances on TV shows including ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’, Dennings was cast in her first feature film, Hilary Duff‘s ‘Raise Your Voice'(2004) as Sloane, a piano player. She was then cast in ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation NY’ and the show ‘ER’ appearing in 5 episodes in the latter in 2005. In 2010, she bagged a supporting role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film ‘Thor’. She starred in the movie as Darcy Lewis, the best friend, and assistant of Jane Foster played by Natalie Portman. The film, directed by Kenneth Branagh was shot in 2010 and released in 2011. ‘Thor’ went on to gross a substantial $450 million at the box office. She acted in the series for 6 full seasons alongside Beth Behrs before the show was canceled in 2017. Meanwhile, on the big screen, Dennings reprised her role in the Thor franchise film sequel ‘Thor: The Dark World’ in 2013 while later starring in the third installment, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ in 2017.
The second film of the franchise ‘Thor: The Dark World’ was an even bigger success than its predecessor raking in $644 million worldwide at the box office. While the third film, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, outdid both it’s previous installments in making $854 million worldwide, it seems that the ‘Thor’ franchise keeps getting bigger and better as time passes and it’s certain that Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and also Kat Dennings are all riding the wave of the film’s success. However, her name isn’t mentioned in the casting lineup for the new Thor film titled ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’.
Dennings’ additional film credits include ‘Down in the Valley'(2005), ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’ (2005), ‘London’ (2005), ‘Charlie Bartlett’ (2007), ‘The House Bunny’ (2008), ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ (2008), ‘The Answer Man'(2009), ‘Shorts’ (2009), ‘Defendor’ (2009), ‘Daydream Nation’ (2010), ‘To Write Love on Her Arms’ (2012), ‘Suburban Gothic’ (2014), and ‘Hollywood Adventures’ (2015).
