Kerri Walsh was born to Margery Lee and Timothy Joseph Walsh on 15th August 1978. She was brought up in Scotts Valley near Santa Cruz. Kerri discovered her love for volleyball in her high school years. She did her high schooling from Archbishop Mitty High School and participated in several Volleyball as well as Basketball tournaments. She took her high school team to three state championships in the discipline of volleyball in the consecutive years 1993, 1994 and 1995. When Kerri got in her senior year, her tremendous capabilities as an athlete won her the award for number one volleyball athlete recruit.
Kerri was always a very bright and hardworking student, and her dedication got her into Stanford University. She spread her magic there as well. While she stayed in Stanford, she participated in many competitions, and her volleyball team won almost 90% of all the matches they played with an overall record of 122-11. Kerri set the record by becoming the only second player in the history of Stanford University football team to be chosen the first team all four years of her college career. Kerri was making records ever since she got into the sports world. She also made a PAC-10 history by being the first player to record over 1,500 kills, 1,200 digs, and 500 blocks. She got her Bachelor’s degree in Bachelor of Arts in American studies from Stanford University. She trained at Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach in Los Angeles, California before 2002.
Kerri professionally plays Beach volleyball and has partnered with Misty May-Treanor in most of the matches she has played in her career. The duo May and Walsh are considered the magical duo as they went on to dominate the volleyball world like a boss. They formed their partnership in the year 2001, and after that, there was no looking back. They finished the season while being on the number five ranking in the world. Next year in 2002, the duo claimed their number one world ranking and continued to dominate even in 2003. They won 90 straight matches and all eight tournaments that they had entered making a world record.
Walsh played her first summer Olympics in the year 2000 on the category of US women’s Indoor team and bagged the fourth position in the world. The magical duo of May and Walsh spread their thunder in the 2004 summer Olympic Games, and they successfully won a gold medal without losing even a single match in all seven matches. In 2008, the duo continued to dominate and claimed their gold medal once again without losing a single match in the entire tournament. In the 2012 London Olympics, the duo paired for the last time and maintained their streak of winning gold medals. They were now the undefeated champions of beach volleyball, and Kerri became one of the most decorated beach volleyball players in the history.
In the recent Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016, Kerri paired with April Ross and got the fourth position in the world ranking. Kerri is one of the very few athletes who has won three Olympic gold medals in consecutive years in any discipline.
In 2005, Walsh tied the knot with fellow American pro-beach-volleyball player Casey Jennings. They are parents to two sons and a daughter. Her children are named Joseph Michael who was born on May 22, 2009, Sundance Thomas, born on May 19, 2010, and Scout Margery who was born on April 6, 2013.
