Kung Fu Season 2: Everything We Know

Kung Fu’ on The CW is a re-imagination of the eponymous 1970s show. Developed by Christina M. Kim, the action series first released in April 2021. It follows Nicky Shen, a young Chinese-American woman, who drops out of Harvard Law School to join a Shaolin monastery in China. Equipped with the knowledge of martial arts, she decides to use her skills for the greater good. While she protects the people in her community against criminals, she also searches for the person who killed her mentor.

The martial arts-based drama has been highly praised for the well-choreographed action sequences, although they seem to rely on slow-motion effects to quite an extent. The cast is likable and diverse, but the critics felt that the show needed to move beyond stereotypes and cliches as far as the characters are concerned. At the same time, it would benefit from establishing the relationships between characters more organically than spelling them out in conversations. So, looking at the mixed response the series has received, the fans must be wondering whether or not there is a chance for the show to return with a second season. We are here to settle those doubts!

Kung Fu Season 2 Release Date

‘Kung Fu’ season 1 premiered on April 7, 2021, on The CW, with the season wrapping up on July 21, 2021, after screening 13 episodes.

With regard to the second installment, we have news. On May 3, 2021, the show received an early renewal after just four episodes had aired on the network. This was expected given the impressive response the show received upon its release. The premiere episode attracted 3.5 million viewers, making it the highest viewership a Wednesday debut on the network has received in the last 7 years. Moreover, The CW was looking for stability in its schedule, which explains why it chose to green light most of the shows on their current lineup.

The first season began filming in mid-October 2020 and continued until late April 2021, even though the season premiered in the first week of April 2021. It has not yet been disclosed when the filming will commence for season 2. But if it follows the same schedule, we can expect ‘Kung Fu’ season 2 to release sometime in early 2022. This makes sense, given the show is a mid-season entry.

Kung Fu Season 2 Cast: Who can be in it?

We can expect most of the main cast members in season 1 to return for the sophomore round. This includes Olivia Liang (Nicky Shen), Kheng Hua Tan (Mei-Li Shen), Eddie Liu (Henry Yan), Shannon Dang (Althea Shen), Jon Prasida (Ryan Shen), and Tzi Ma (Jin Shen). Although Pei-Ling Zhang is dead, we might continue to see Vanessa Kai portraying the role since Pei-Ling appears as a vision to Nicky.

Other actors who might return are Gavin Stenhouse (Evan Hartley), Tony Chung (Dennis Soong), and Yvonne Chapman (Zhilan). New actors might also be seen if the upcoming cycle introduces any new characters.

Kung Fu Season 2 Plot: What can it be About?

In the first season, Nicky returns from China and tries to rebuild her relationship with her family. When shocking truths come to light, she makes the much-needed decision to use her skills to protect people, including her loved ones. On the other hand, we see her sister Althea prepare for her wedding, although not everything goes as planned. Things between Nicky and Zhilan reach a boiling point as they clash in the explosive season finale.

In the second season, we will see how life changes for Nicky and the Shen family after all that happens in the final episode of season 1. Additionally, she will continue to help people in trouble. The first season establishes a love triangle between Evan, Nicky, and Henry, which is likely to continue into the show’s second edition.
