Kyokou Suiri Episode 5 Recap
The episode begins with Kotoko watching Kuro fight against Steel Lady Nanase. Soon, even Saki joins her and is shocked after discovering that Kuro is immortal. Nanase then smashes Kuro’s head with a steel beam and there’s nothing the two girls can do about it. Kotoko then explains Saki all about Kuro’s past. The head of Kuro’s family forced all the other family members to feed on Kudan meat to gain the ability to predict the future. Following this, they also ate mermaid meat to gain immortality to sustain the abilities that they gained from the Kudan meat. But after failing to execute these experiments, he was forced to stop. Years later, Kuro’s grandmother pulled it off again and while everyone else died from the poisoning of the meat, only Kuro survived and became immortal.
The episode then drifts back to the present events where Kuro’s smashed head starts to heal all by itself. Just when Nanase starts believing that he is dead, he stands back up and charges towards her. He then dodges another one of her attacks and strangles her from behind. He twists her neck and she falls to the ground. But as Kotoko predicted, this does not kill her and she flees the scene. Kotoko later explains that Nanase is unlike most other Yokai out there.
Firstly, she isn’t scared of Kuro like everyone else. And secondly, she is stronger than most other Yokai. Kotoko tells them that she is nothing but “a monster of imagination” and her physical presence is an outcome of rumors that people started spreading about her. Her powerful physical presence is also an outcome of the energy of the manifestations that comes from a website that is dedicated to her. In the next episode, Kuro, Saki, and Kotoko will team up for the first time and will try to find an alternative rumor to replace the one that has given birth Nanase. But before they can do that, they’ll have to go to the very root of these rumors and find out where it all began.
