Animated by Brain’s Base Studio (‘Durarara!!‘, ‘Baccano!‘), ‘Kyokou Suiri’ is a unique blend of many different anime genres. It involves everything from shounen to mystery to even shoujo, but what makes it stand out is its intricate character interactions. Although it does have a few action scenes here and there, it never gets lost in these and solely uses its character dialogues as a narrative device. For obvious reasons, many anime viewers would not really enjoy this approach and would prefer more action over it.
However, it’s this element of its storyline that actually gives it more depth and even adds a layer of realism to it. If, like us, you had a good time watching its first season and you’re already eagerly waiting for season 2, read on further to know all the details about its renewal.
In/Spectre Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?
The first season of ‘Kyokou Suiri’ premiered on January 12, 2020 and with a total of 12 episodes, it finished airing on March 29, 2020. It has been adapted from a Japanese novel published by Kodansha and written by Kyo Shirodaira with illustrations by Hiro Kyohara. Even a manga adaptation of it was started back in 2015 which illustrated by Chasiba Katase. Now when it comes to its sequel, the first season itself leaves a lot of room for more developments.
Although all the plot points introduced in the first season are resolved in the season’s finale, many character relationships, including that of Kotoko and Kuro, are left unresolved. So clearly, the creators of the show do have a lot to work with from a character development standpoint. Moreover, even Rikka’s part of the story has clearly not ended yet. In the final episode, Kuro even mentions that she’ll try to create another Yokai from her imagination as she has always been a monster at heart.
If we compare the first season of the anime with its source manga, it adapts the entire Steel Lady Nanase arc which ends somewhere around the sixth volume of the source. Since the manga has a total of 11 published volumes, there seems to be enough material for a whole new season. Unfortunately, as of now, no official confirmations about its renewal have been made but considering its popularity on Crunchyroll, we expect In/Spectre season 2 to release sometime in January 2021. As soon as we get any official news regarding it, we will update it here in this section.

What is Kyokou Suiri About?
Kuro Sakuragawa meets a mysterious crippled girl named Kotoko Iwanaga who claims that she has been in love with him for the past few years. She even reveals it to him that she’s the Goddess of Wisdom who serves as peacemaker between the real world of humans and the Yokai realm. For obvious reasons, Kuro does not really believe her at first but soon after this, they end up fighting a Yokai at the library and Kuro realizes that she wasn’t lying at all.
At the same time, it is also revealed that Kuro is a monster feared by many Yokai since he had eaten Yokai meat when he was a child. Realizing that she could put his abilities to good use, Kotoko asks him to help her out with her peace-keeping endeavors and the two, later also joined by Kuro’s ex-girlfriend Saki, set out on a supernatural adventure.
