Laila Amaria Ali, popularly known as Laila Ali was born in Miami Beach, Florida on December 30th, 1977. Born As the daughter of boxer Muhammad Ali and Veronica Porché Ali, Laila Ali got her graduation done from the Santa Monica College, California with a business degree. Also, she owned a nail salon before she entered her hands in the boxing gloves. At the age of eighteen, Laila Ali began her journey in boxing after she first noticed Christy Martin in women’s boxing fight. She soon announced her decision in an interview to become a professional boxer.
Laila Ali fought her first match on October 8th, 1999, where she knocked out her competitor, April Fowler. Also, she won her second match with three-seconds time left, opposite Shadina Pennybaker, from Pittsburgh. Soon after, Laila Ali won eight matches in line, where one was with Jackie Frazier-Lyde on 8th June 2001, where they both fought and Laila Ali won the eight rounds of the match with a majority of the judges’ decisions. This match was the first main-event pay-per-view match between two women. Later, Laila Ali won the IBA title in Las Vegas on August 17, 2002, by knocking out Suzette Taylor. In the same year, on 8th November 2002, she unified the crown by capturing the WIBA and IWBF belts with a total of eight rounds.
Laila Ali fought with her original inspiration, Christy Martin on August 23rd, 2003, and won within four rounds. Keeping her spirit high, Laila Ali retained her world title, by knocking Nikki Eplion in four rounds on July 17, 2004. Later on September 24th, 2004, Laila Ali captured the title of IWBF Light Heavyweight by knocking Gwendolyn O’Neil in three rounds. Laila Ali is now married to NFL player, Curtis Conway and is a mother with two children, son Curtis Muhammad Conway born on August 26th, 2008 and a daughter, Jurldine Conway born on April 4th, 2011. Before this, Laila Ali was married to Johnny “Yahya” McClain on August 27th, 2000, who was her manager and guide through her career.
Laila Ali is a great boxer as well as a great lady. She was raised Muslim but she doesn’t follow the Islamic faith.
