Netflix has added another gem to its supernatural horror section in the form of ‘Locke and Key’. The show is the adaptation of the comic book series of the same name by Joe Hill. Developed by Carlton Cuse, Aron Eli Coleite and Meredith Averill, the comic book had been tossing around from one network to another for quite a while. It was initially planned by Dimension Films as a trilogy. When that didn’t pan out, FOX gave it a go with the pilot, which never got picked up into a series. Another pilot had been created for Hulu, but it didn’t turn out into anything concrete either.
In the end, Netflix came to the rescue and now, the fans finally have their favourite story and characters on the screen. Produced by Gene Arts in collaboration with IDW Entertainment and Circle of Confusion, ‘Locke and Key’ creates a maze of secrets and mysteries which the characters, as well as, the audience have to tread before discovering the truth behind it all.
If you are one of those who loved the show, you must be wondering if there will be a ‘Locke and Key’ season 2. Let’s find out.
Locke and Key Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?
‘Locke and Key’ Season 1 released February 7, 2020 on Netflix.
As far as the next season goes, here’s what we know. Due to the popularity of the comic book, the show already has a massive fanbase. Moreover, the genre of supernatural teen dramas is one of the most popular ones on Netflix. Add to that the mystery created by Joe Hill, who has already created a number of other horror shows for television. All of these factors almost guarantee the show’s renewal.
The creators of the series also feel positive about the reception and have already started working on the second season, even though it has not been officially greenlit by Netflix yet. With so much excitement packed into one show, there is no way that Netflix will not renew it. You can expect ‘Locke and Key’ Season 2 to release sometime in February 2021.

After the mysterious death of their father, three siblings move to their ancestral home with their mother. Soon, things begin to change and they discover a number of keys that open the doorways that they could never have imagined. There are keys like the Anywhere Key which can open the door to anywhere you want to go. There is the Ghost Key, which separates your soul from the body, and the Head Key, which reveals the secrets inside your head. As the children explore the secrets of the house and wonder how it connects to their father, they find themselves face to face with an evil force who wants to have all the keys.
To explain the process of bringing the story from paper to screen, Netflix released a video showing how the creators of the show tapped into the darkness of the comic books and brought the monsters alive for the show. You can watch the video here:
