How did Macklemore earn his money and wealth?
Benjamin Hammond “Ben” Haggerty, or as he is most popularly known, Macklemore, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. Born on June 19, 1983, in Seattle Washington, Ben started lyrics at the early age of only 15. His parents are Bill Haggerty and Julie Schott. He has a brother with whom he was raised in Seattle. He is of Irish descent. At the age of six, Haggerty was first introduced to hip-hop through Digital Underground.
As a teenager, he would listen to “a lot of East Coast underground hip hop”. He recalls Hieroglyphics, Freestyle Fellowship, Aceyalone, Living Legends, Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, Nas, and Talib Kweli having a huge influence on him while growing up. He even facilitated music workshops in an attempt to get to the younger generation through his music, Haggerty went to school at Garfield High School and Nathan Hale High School. While at Hale, he adopted the title “Professor Macklemore.” He started Elevated Elements along with a few other students at Garfield. It was a hip-hop group that went on to produce the album Progress in 2000. He later attended The Evergreen State College in 2009 and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree.
Before releasing his first album, Haggerty first came out with a mixtape called “Open Your Eyes”. He released his first album “The Language of My World” in 2000. He also appeared in the song “Good” by The Physics’ and performed at the Seattle major arts and music festival “Bumbershoot” for three years in 2008, 2009, and 2010. He released his second mixtape “The Unplanned Mixtape” in 2009. His debut single “The Town” that was part of his album The Unplanned Mixtape was positioned at No.7 on iTunes.
In 2009 Macklemore collaborated with Ryan Lewis and released the EP called “The VS. EP”. Their first album together titled “The Heist” was released in 2012 and debuted on the U.S Billboard at number 2 and also managed to sell 78,000 copies. Macklemore joined the cast of the new series “Primed”, whose focus was on emerging artists and came out in 2013. Macklemore’s third album “this Unruly Mess I’ve Made” came out in 2016. Aside from his album with the collaboration with Ryan Lewis, Ben also released two solo singles in the same year and they were titled “Drug Dealer” and “Wednesday Morning”.
His second solo album was released in 2017 and was called “Gemini”. He also collaborated with some other artists in the same year, which includes “Glorious” featuring Skylar Grey, “Marmalade” featuring rapper Lil Yachty and “Good Old Days” with the singer Kesha. Macklemore has suffered from drug and alcohol addiction most of his life and also admitted himself into rehab. On June 27, 2015, Macklemore married his long-time girlfriend Tricia Davis and they have two daughters.
