In the season 2 premiere of ‘Making the Cut,’ titled ‘Brand Statement,’ Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn returned to find the next sensational global brand! Tucked away in a ranch in Malibu, they picked 10 talented designers who showed up with their first assignment of the season. Every designer conceived two looks encapsulating their individual personalities. Before the costumes entered the runway, every designer had to say a few words to fashion journalist Maghan McDowell of Vogue Business.
Gary Graham, a New York-based designer, created two waist-tie dresses bearing vintage patterns that, if turned into a story, would be about redemption as per what he revealed. His knack for creating expressive designs earned him a win this week. As far as others are concerned, designer Joshua Scacheri almost didn’t make it, while New Jersey’s Lendrell Martin was the first one to exit this season. Following the season premiere, the second episode titled ‘Resortwear’ focused on vacation outfits and welcomed fashion designer Prabal Gurung at the judges’ corner along with Heidi and Tim.
Every designer posted an image of their design on social media, and four fashion influencers were asked to vote for the best outfit. The winner got a chance to collaborate with an influencer on Amazon Fashion’s fashion line, The Drop. Scacheri completely turned the game in this episode with a vibrant look that challenged bridal designer Andrea Pitter’s heavily printed ensemble, and the former ultimately got the prize. The second contestant to be eliminated this week was Jaipur/Los Angeles-based designer Dushyant Asthana.
