How did Mark Harmon earn his money and wealth?

Mark Harmon is a film and television actor who has been acting since the 1970’s. He was born Thomas Mark Harmon on September 2, 1951, in Burbank, California. Harmon after the completion of his schooling went to Pierce College in Los Angeles and completed a two-year associate degree.  He was selected by many major colleges in their football program during his sophomore year and he finally chose University of California, Los Angeles. He played quarterback for the Bruins football team while studying at UCLA in 1972 and 1973. He received the National Football Foundation Award for All-Round Excellence in his senior year in 1973. He graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Communications in 1974. He has also one of the first class of members to be inducted into the Pierce College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.

After Harmon graduated from college, he was planning to pursue a career either in law or advertising. He started his professional career as a merchandising director but realized that his real calling was in acting. His first national TV appearance was in a commercial with his father (who was a longstanding TV spokesman) for Kellogg’s Product 19 cereal. His first role as an actor was in an episode of “Ozzie’s Girls” which he followed up with guest roles in TV shows like “Adam-12”, “Emergency!” and “Police Woman”. He was also a part of the series “905-Wild” which eventually did not sell. He was later cast in “Sam”(1978), a series about an LAPD officer and his K-9 partner. Harmon went on to make guest appearances on TV series like Delvecchio, Laverne & Shirley and The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries in the mid-1970’s. He later played the role of Fielding Carlisle in the soap opera “Flamingo Road” in 1980 and in 1983 as Dr. Robert Caldwell in St. Elsewhere. He starred with Meg Ryan and Sean Connery in “The Presidio” (1988) and with Jodie Foster in “Stealing Home”. He also starred as a Chicago police detective in Reasonable Doubts for two seasons in 1991-1993. He starred in “The West Wing” in May 2002 for which he a second Emmy Award nomination. He also starred in NCIS  where he appeared as Gibbs.

Harmon appeared in television commercials for Coors Regular beer when she became their spokesperson in the mid-1980’s. He was named the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine in 1986. He received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on October 1, 2012.

Harmon has earned many awards and nominations in his career. One his earliest nomination was for the TV movie “Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years” for which he earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie.

Harmon married Pam Dawber, an actress on March 21, 1987. He is part owner of a minor league baseball team in San Bernardino, California.
