The ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spin-off, ‘Mayans M.C.,’ is a crime drama series that takes place four years after the events of its predecessor. Set in the fictitious Californian border town of Santo Padre, the story follows Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, who’s now out of jail and looking to join the Club in order to bring down Miguel Galindo and the Galindo drug cartel, who are responsible for obliterating his family’s life.
EZ’s vengeance sinks him further down in the criminal quicksand before he realizes it’s too late to back out. Since the conclusion of season 2 in November 2019, fans are looking forward to being graced by the much-anticipated third installment. So here’s everything we know about the release date and other details of ‘Mayans M.C.’ season 3!
Mayans M.C. Season 3 Release Date
‘Mayans M.C.’ season 2 premiered on September 3, 2019, on FX, and wrapped on a high note with its tenth episode on November 5, 2019, after airing ten episodes. Fans excited to learn about its fate can let out a sigh of relief as the network officially commissioned a third season in November 2019.
Unfortunately, the industrywide production shut down due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic derailed its release schedule, much like every other scripted content out there. However, the good news is the filming for season 3 has received the green light and has already gone on the floor in mid-October 2020 while adhering to the necessary health and safety precautions. If all goes well, fans can expect ‘Mayans M.C.’ season 3 to premiere sometime in early 2021.
Mayans M.C. Season 3 Cast: Who is in it?
Almost all the central cast members are returning for season 3, including J.D. Pardo as EZ, Clayton Cardenas as Angel, Sarah Bolger as Emily, Michael Irby as Bishop, Carla Baratta as Adelita, Danny Pino as Miguel Galindo, Edward James Olmos as Felipe Reyes, Raoul Trujillo as Taza, Richard Cabral as Johnny Cruz, Emilio Rivera as Marcus Alvarez, and Ray McKinnon as Lincoln Potter. Ada Maris and Antonio Jaramillo, who play Dita and Riz, respectively, might not be returning as their characters have met their fate. Unless they appear in a flashback, season 3 won’t feature them.
Creator of the entire ‘Sons of Anarchy’ franchise, Kurt Sutter, also won’t be coming back for season 3. He stepped down following the allegations of his “abrasive” and “unprofessional” behavior on set, which further lead to an internal investigation sustaining the claims to be true. His co-creator and executive producer Elgin James has taken over his position since.
Mayans M.C. Season 3 Plot: What can it be About?
Suffice it to say, ‘Mayans M.C.’ season 2 ends with a bang. The Santo Padre charter takes a hit and decides to declare war on the Vatos Malditos M.C. as retaliation. The unexpected attack feeds into the Mayans’ desire to seek revenge against their rivals. The biggest shock comes in the form of former VM member Taza, who snuffs the life out of Mayans M.C. member, Riz. While the Reyes and Galindo familial connections bubble to the surface, EZ and Angel confront Potter with leverage to save their father. Season 2 ends with a dead body of a SAMCRO member, whose identity is yet to be revealed.
The plot-threads left dangling in season 2 are expected to be addressed in season 3. The knowledge of the Reyes and Galindo history is paving the way for a confrontation. We might also get to know the exact reasons behind the murder of Riz. Adelita is having Reyes’ baby, but he isn’t exactly the type of person who could be trusted. The viewers might get to see more on that front. With an ongoing literal war between Mayans and Vatos Malditos, gang politics might be at the forefront of the season 3 plotline.
