American professional boxing promoter and former professional boxer Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. was born on the 24th of February 1977 in Grand Rapids in Michigan to former welterweight contender Floyd Mayweather Sr. into a family of boxers that include his uncles Jeff Mayweather and Roger Mayweather who were also into professional boxing. Mayweather attended Ottawa Hills High School before dropping out. Living a difficult childhood with his drug addict mother and father who he says have ignored him, Mayweather claims that his potential was first recognized by his grandmother.

In the years 1993, 1994 and 1996, Mayweather went on to win national Golden Gloves championships and had an amateur record of 84-8. At the 1996 Olympics that was held in Atlanta, Mayweather sacked a bronze medal by fighting himself to the semi-finals in the featherweight category. It was in the year 1996 that Mayweather won his first professional bout by knocking out Roberto Apodaca in Round 2.

Apart from his very successful boxing career, Mayweather has also established his presence in World Wrestling Entertainment though for a short period of time. His first appearance was at WWE’s No Way Out pay-per-view event on February 17, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He had a storyline wherein he developed a feud with Big Show by breaking his nose to help Rey Mysterio out. He was challenged by Big Show to a one-on-one No Disqualification match at WrestleMania XXIV, which Mayweather readily accepted. During the fight, Mayweather knocked Big Show out with brass knuckles. Through this fight, Mayweather bagged $20 million. He also hosted Raw in Las Vegas in 2009.

Mayweather also tried a hand at a dance by participating in the fifth season of Dancing with the Stars with his partner Ukrainian American professional ballroom dancer Karina Smirnoff and finished off in 9th place. During his rein in the world of professional boxing, Mayweather managed to entitle numerous championships including WBC super featherweight championship, WBC lightweight championship, WBC super lightweight championship, IBF welterweight championship, WBC welterweight championship, WBC light middleweight championship, WBA light middleweight championship, WBA welterweight championship and WBO welterweight championship.

He appeared atop the Forbes and Sports Illustrated lists of the 50 highest-paid athletes of 2012 and 2013, and the Forbes list yet again in 2014 and 2015.
