McMillions Episode 3 Recap:

‘McMillions’ has shown us how the scheme involves winners who lie about their situation. Usually, the tales are laughable and we have no sympathy for those who won using unfair means. However, this episode shows us the flip side of the situation, where even the winners get hurt by Jerome’s scheme.

Before taking home any of the winnings from the lottery, the people have to pay the two Jerrys, that is Jacobson, and the head of the Colombo family. We meet Gloria Brown, who defrauded the system, but only because she was brought into the fold and exploited by the gangster.

The episode shows us how Robin, Jerry Colombo’s wife, suggests that he bring women and colored people into the fold so McDonald’s does not get suspicious about the homogeneity of the winners. Robin brings in her friend Gloria, who was suffering from financial troubles. Unwilling to look a gift horse in the mouth, Gloria took the deal. However, she ended up completely at the mercy of Colombo, who made her mortgage her house to pay his share upfront.

By the time she got the winnings in hand, after-tax deductions, she was left with only $10,000. Thus, it is demonstrated how some of the winners were victims in their own way, with the two Jerrys being the main culprits.

The episode also gives us a look into Colombo’s life, and how he was fixated on opening a strip club in Ladson, South Carolina. His schemes and tricks ultimately drove a wedge between him and Robin, which is when Jerome stepped in. It remains to be seen whether their love triangle has any bearing on the story of the fraud, but the episode shows once again how closely Jerome worked with the Colombo crime family, to pull off the fraud.
