Meryl Streep is an American actress who is often described as the “best actress of her generation”, Streep is particularly known for her versatility and accent adaptation. With a career spanning over four decades, Streep has given brilliant performances year after year with great consistency. Starting her career in the early 1970s, Streep starred in multiple hits like ‘The Deer Hunter’, ‘Kramer vs. Kramer’, ‘Sophie’s Choice’, ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’, ‘Silkwood’, ‘Out of Africa’, ‘Ironweed’, ‘Evil Angels’, ‘Postcards from the Edge’, ‘The Bridges of Madison County’, ‘One True Thing’, ‘Music of the Heart’, ‘Adaptation’, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, ‘Doubt’ and ‘Julie & Julia’.

In 2011, Streep played Margaret Thatcher in ‘The Iron Lady’, a British biographical film which takes a look at the Prime Minister during the Falklands War and her years in retirement. She re-united with her ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ director David Frankel on the sets of the romantic comedy-drama film ‘Hope Springs’ in 2012, co-starring Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carell. In 2013, she starred alongside Julia Roberts and Ewan McGregor in the black comedy drama ‘August: Osage County’ about a dysfunctional family that re-unites into the familial house when their patriarch suddenly disappears.

In 2015, she starred in Jonathan Demme’s ‘Ricki and the Flash’, playing a grocery store checkout worker by day who is a rock musician at night, and who has one last chance to reconnect with her estranged family. In 2016, she starred in the Stephen Frears-directed comedy ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’, an eponymous biopic about a blithely unaware tone-deaf opera singer who insists upon public performance. She next starred as the first American female newspaper publisher, Katharine Graham, to Tom Hanks’ Ben Bradlee, in Steven Spielberg‘s political drama ‘The Post’ in 2017, which centers on The Washington Post’s publication of the 1971 Pentagon Papers. In 2018, she briefly reprised the role of Donna Sheridan in the musical sequel ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’.

1. Big Little Lies (2017 – )


Meryl Streep joins Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman in the second season of the popular HBO drama series ‘Big Little Lies.’ The three-time Oscar-winner plays the role of Mary Louise Wright, who is the grieving mother of recently deceased Perry (played by Alexander Skarsgård). When Mary Louise Wright descends upon the suburb of Monterey to find out the truth behind her beloved son’s death, the plot thickens. David E. Kelley, who served as the creator for the critically acclaimed first season, adapted the screenplay for season 2 from a story by ‘Big Little Lies’ writer Liane Moriarty.

The three moms in Monterey, California return after their climactic showdown with the abusive husband and rapist Perry in the season 1. ‘Big Little Lies‘ season 2 is directed by Andrea Arnold, who is known for ‘American Honey‘ and ‘Transparent,’ while Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Bruna Papandrea, Jean-Marc Vallée, Nathan Ross, Gregg Fienberg, and David E. Kelley serve as executive producers. HBO airs ‘Big Little Lies’ season 2 on June 9, 2019.

2. Untitled Martin Scorsese Project (TBA)

The untitled project from Martin Scorsese is a long-gestating and secretive venture with a rumored cast. Meryl Streep reportedly joins Sharon Stone and Robert De Niro in the movie. The project has been kept under tight wraps by the filmmaker and the cast. Only Sharon Stone has acknowledged the existence of such a project. When asked about it an episode of WTF with Marc Maron in 2018, Stone teased that she did something like that with Martin Scorsese a few years back. The actress also added that it was a supporting role. But she didn’t reveal anything more about the plot, titles and cast of the mysteries project.

3. The Laundromat (2019)

Streep is also slated to star in ‘The Laundromat’, a Steven Soderbergh-directed drama about the Panama Papers scandal that has a script by Scott Z. Burns, based on the Jake Bernstein book Secrecy World: Inside the Panama Papers Investigation of Illicit Money Networks and the Global Elite. The drama is the story of the revelations of reams of documents leaked from the Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca by an anonymous whistleblower that bared embarrassing details on investments and money trails from politicians the world over, meant to evade taxes. The film will also star Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas.

4. Little Women (2019)

Streep is also in talks to play a role in the upcoming movie adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s 1868 novel of the same name, on the 150th anniversary of the novel. The original plot focuses on the March sisters: Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, who are growing up in Concord, Massachusetts during and after the American Civil War. With their father away fighting in the war, the girls struggle with major and minor problems under the guidance of their strong-willed mother, affectionately called Marmee. As a means of escaping some of their problems, the sisters revel in performing in romantic plays written by Jo in their attic theater.

Directed by Greta Gerwig on a self-written script, the movie is expected to star Eliza Scanlen as Beth March, Emma Watson as Meg March, Timothée Chalamet as Laurie Laurence, Saoirse Ronan as Jo March, Meryl Streep as Aunt March and Florence Pugh as Amy March. The movie is expected to hit theaters on 25 December, 2019.
