How did Mike Ditka earn his money and wealth?
Mike Ditka, born on October 18 in 1939, is a former professional American football player and has also served as the coach and television commentator. A part of both the College Football in 1986 and Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988, he was the UPI NFL Rookie of Year in 1961. Mike started playing football when he was in school and won many championships and awards in his adult career. Throwing light on his playing career, as soon as he signed with the Chicago Bears, his presence was immediately felt. In his first season with Chicago Bears, Ditka’s performance improved and he became the focal point of his competitors.
Mike scored twelve touchdowns, which was the most by any rookie Bear. His success in football helped him in receiving many Rookie of the Year honors. He played for Bears for almost 5 years, getting a Pro Bowl trip each season. Ditka played on the NFL championship team in 1963. Against the Los Angeles Rams, during the season, Ditka made a record for the most accepted touchdowns in a game with 4. In 1967, Ditka was operated by the Philadelphia Eagles where he spent two of his seasons, before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 1969. While playing for Eagles, he changed his number to 98 and later changed it back to his usual 89. Ditka played four seasons with the Cowboys, becoming part of the touchdown reception in the Cowboys’ 24–3 victory in Super Bowl VI over the Miami Dolphins.
After retiring in 1972, Ditka started working as an assistant coach for Cowboys. Ditka’s tenure as an assistant coach lasted for nine seasons. During his contract, the Cowboys reached the playoffs about eight times, won titles of 6 divisions, 3 Championships of NFC and a Super Bowl victory in 1977.
While working as a coach with the Cowboys, Ditka sent a letter to George Halas, the owner of the Chicago Bears, expressing his desire to work again with the Chicago Bears as the head coach. Under the charge of Ditka, the Cowboys continued to record their wins except for the Super Bowl. His last match with the Cowboys was held in 1981 in NFC championship, where his team was on the losing side.
Ditka was ranked 90 on the list of The Sporting News among the 100 Greatest Football Players. Ditka also served as the commentator for many NBC broadcasts.
